Everlane Shorts Guide: A Review & Styling Ideas

Hello again! I’m always so awkward in my intros and outros, and for that I am truly sorry.

Today I thought I would provide you guys with an Everlane shorts guide. A quick glance at my analytics shows that my Everlane denim guide and boot guide are some of your favorite posts. So. This one’s for you ?

Was that creepy enough for you? Yes? Okay lets move on.

In a similar vein as my denim guide, I suddenly realized that I owned almost every style of shorts that Everlane currently sells so I thought I would share my knowledge with you in the form of a shorts guide.

The only pairs I don’t own are the Put Together Pleat Short, the Perform Bike Short, and the Cotton Twill Shorts. Let me know in the comments if you would like me to order and review them for you, and I’ll get on that!

So let’s get to the reviews!

My measurements:

135ish lbs.

  • Safer For The Environment: Our denim factory partner recycles 98% of their water using reverse osmosis filtration and keeps byproducts out of the environment by mixing them with concrete to create building materials.
  • Reduced CO2 Emissions: The LEED-certified factory that makes our denim uses renewable energy and air drying to reduce its CO2 emissions by 80%.

DESCRIPTION

Your favorite shorts, but better. A cut-off version of our best-selling jeans, the Cheeky Denim Short has a flattering high rise, pockets that give a lifting effect, and an overstitched raw hem that won’t shrink after washing. The best part? It’s made of premium denim with just a touch of stretch for comfort.

What I say:

  • Fit: I have been eyeing these shorts since they were released last year, but I never took the plunge because they seemed like they would be way too short for me, and, well… they are really short. But now that I’ve had them for a bit, I realize I don’t mind the length because of the room in the leg opening. They have a looser fit in the thigh than any of their other denim styles which makes the length not so noticeable. Plus the high rise on these lessens the “impact” of the shorter style. These do run a bit small so I would order a full size up.
  • Material: These are the only stretch denim shorts that Everlane offers, and they definitely feel like they have elastane in them. The denim on these is also much more lightweight than the 100% cotton of the below styles so these are probably the shorts you’ll want on a really hot day.

DESCRIPTION

A true summer staple. We gave our denim short an easy, slightly relaxed fit and a raw hem that can be worn two ways—rolled up or unrolled.

What I say:

  • Fit: These are my favorite pair of Everlane shorts that I own, and its largely because they are super comfortable. They just hug your curves so perfectly, and they sit at a really comfy place on your waistline. I also really like that the shorts can be rolled down for a longer inseam. I personally prefer them rolled up a couple of times as I like my shorts… short ha! But they do have that option if you want it. One other thing to note is that these shorts aren’t super tapered at the bottom which means that even though they do hug your thighs, they don’t plaster to your thighs… does that make sense? There’s just the right amount of room to make them look a bit vintage in style instead of like you’re wearing denim cycling shorts (big pet peeve of mine with shorts!)
  • Material: They are made of 100% cotton so they have the feel of a vintage pair of shorts. There’s a bit of weight to them, but they still are lightweight enough to wear on really hot days.

DESCRIPTION

Vintage-inspired in all the right ways. Made of premium non-stretch Japanese denim, the ’90s Cheeky Denim Short features a flattering high rise, butt-boosting rear pockets, and a long, lounge-friendly inseam. Plus, it has an overstitched raw hem that won’t shrink after washing and a classic button fly for an added ’90s touch.

What I say:

  • Fit: I have to admit that when I first saw these I was skeptical about how comfortable they would be. I’m not a huge fan of shorts that are really tight on my thigh area, and these looked like they’d be exactly that. And, well, they kind of are… but they are actually pretty comfortable. I say pretty instead of really because they are have the feel of 100% cotton so they are a bit thicker, and less stretchy than I’m used to in my shorts. With that said, they are very comfortable in the waistline, and they stay up so well without needing a belt. I stayed true to size in these unlike in the 90’s cheeky jeans, and they fit perfectly. However, if you are very curvy in the hips and thighs I would definitely size up. I do really love the vintage vibe of these, and they are actually perfect for hanging out with my kids… I don’t have to worry about flashing anything with this length!
  • Material: Like I mentioned above, these are 100% cotton, and they definitely feel like they are. They are medium weight denim, but there’s no stretch there so be prepared for that. Despite the lack of stretch the fabric does not feel restricting so don’t let that scare you away!

Style: The Easy Chino Short in Stone

Also comes in: Tomato, Fatigue, Washed Black, Ochre, and sizes 00-16

Cost: $48

My Size: 4

What the website says:

  • 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane
  • Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low.

DESCRIPTION

Finding the right short can be hard—we made it easy. Super lightweight with a comfortable elastic waist, the Easy Chino Short was designed in a casual, relaxed fit that’s not too short and not too long. Just pull on and go.

What I say:

  • Fit: I would size up in these shorts. I got them in my true size 4, and they fit okay, but I could have used the extra room in the waistband. I do really like the let opening on these shorts… it’s nice and roomy which makes them a really cool and comfy pair of shorts to wear when it’s really hot.
  • Material: these feel like a very crisp pair of cotton shorts. I.e. they are not flowy at all. They hold their shape, but the cotton is really soft so they are very comfortable to wear for every day. They are also very lightweight, but the material is not so thin that they are see through, and I haven’t had any issues with underwear lines.

My Size: 4

What the website says:

  • Inseam: 5″
  • 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane
  • Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Or dry clean.

DESCRIPTION

As easy as it gets. The Easy Chino Long Short is comfortable from hip to hem, thanks to its lightweight cotton twill fabric, breathable silhouette, and pull-on waistband. It’s a longer update on our Easy Chino Short—and it’s just as fuss-free.

What I say:

  • Fit: The waistband on these feels a bit more stretchy and a little less constricting than the original easy chino short. They also run more true to size than the original version. These I got in my typical size 4, and they fit perfectly. I love that the leg has lots of room in it as well. I really don’t like when shorts are supposed to be a more relaxed fit, and yet they are cut in such a way that they hug the thigh area. These actually are relaxed in the thigh area, which I much prefer. A more relaxed leg opening looks really nice when paired with more tailored tops (plus I find them more comfortable). Finally, the elastic on these is sewn in really well. I find that on some elasticated pants, if the elastic is not placed well in the waistband it can start to bunch up and twist (SO annoying!)… these shorts do not have that problem.
  • Material: (repeating what I wrote above because the material is the exact same material) these feel like a very crisp pair of cotton shorts. I.e. they are not flowy at all. They hold their shape, but the cotton is really soft so they are very comfortable to wear for every day. They are also very lightweight, but the material is not so thin that they are see through, and I haven’t had any issues with underwear lines.

So there you have it! I hope you found this helpful. Like I said above, let me know if you’ve been eyeing any of the shorts styles that I don’t own, and I’ll do my best to get a review up for you.

Until next time,

Karin

    hi there,

thank you for your reviews, super helpful.
Everlane easy short, does it wrinkle easily? or wrinkle free?
can I dress up with it or casual only?

They do wrinkle a bit, but not so terrible that I feel I have to steam them every time. Definitely dress up or down!
