Happy Wednesday friends! I hope your week is going well so far. We’re going to be talking about the best sweaters for fall, but let me digress for just a moment. ๐
Iโm currently sitting in a school pick up line which means…
yes. Kit is officially a kindergartner! Our school is doing a hybrid approach so sheโs only in school 2 days a week. This is our first week with her in the classroom, and today was the first day of dropping her off…
and yes. I did cry like a baby after driving away in the car in case youโre wondering. She IS my baby after all!
sigh.
Anyone else have a first time Kindergartner this year?
Okay. Letโs talk about sweaters for fall!
You guys have really loved my roundup posts of items at varying price points so I thought I would continue the series with the best sweaters for fall!
For sizing reference:
I’m typically an XS/Small, 26.5″ waist, 34″ Bust, and 5’5″
SO. with all that said, let’s get into the best fall sweaters at all price ranges:

Sweater #1: Babaa Cardigan No16 in natural, OS
Retails for $329
Is it silly to call a sweater beloved? Because that’s kind of what this cardigan is…
beloved.
It’s just everything I could ever ask and hope for in one single cardigan. It’s made of 100% cotton so it’s very soft, weighty (so it has a lovely drape), and cut in such a way that it’s oversized without being too much. The sleeves aren’t cropped at all, and there are two generous pockets on either side. It also has buttons which increases the functionality and versatility. Is this sweater an investment? Yes it is. BUT it is worth it if you are able.

Sweater #2: It is Well L.A. Open Cardigan in Olive, Small
Retails for $229 (mine was gifted)
I have been so drawn to olive and other earthy greens this fall. I’m typically a straight up neutral kind of girl, but I just haven’t been able to help myself!
I knew I was going to purchase a new It is Well sweater because, quite frankly, they make the very best cotton sweaters in my opinion so I was excited to see their new cardigan style being released in this really pretty olive color, and then I was even more doubly pleased when they asked if they could send it to me.
It’s such a lovely silhouette for a cardigan with it being chunky, while not too chunky. If the bigness of the babaa cardigan is overwhelming to you, then this cardigan is a great step down from that. It still has the oversized fit, and the balloon in the sleeves but in a bit more of a subtle way. It also has the generous pockets, which I love.

Sweater #3: Toast ribbed yoke easy sweater in Ivory, size Medium (currently sold out in ivory, but still available in Marigold)
Retails for $235 (mine was gifted, although I was just about to purchase it when the asked if they could send me something)
I have to admit, I had heart palpitations when I saw this sweater. The mockneck, the ribbing detail, the balloon sleeves. The details on this sweater make the price point worth it in my opinion.
This sweater is a lambswool/cotton mix so it definitely has a bit of that wool feeling to it. I used to think that I couldn’t handle wearing wool, but now I realize that I can’t handle wearing cheap wool. I do okay with higher quality wool, and this is no exception. It does still have a slight itch to it, but with a long sleeve tee underneath it’s perfect.
I sized up in this sweater, but I would stay true to size. It’s a very lightweight wool mix so it doesn’t hang in the same way as a heavier weight sweater would which makes extra fabric a bit bulky.

Sweater #4: Everlane Alpaca Crew in Heather Black, Size Large
Retails for $95
This sweater has been a bit of a surprise for me! Reading reviews online made it seem like this was going to be a very itchy sweater, but it’s actually really not!
It’s made of an alpaca mix, and it’s a very soft and lightweight knit. It almost feels like it floats on you, but the softness gives it that really lovely drape. I love the details on this sweater like the neckline, and the slight ballooning at the sleeve, and I really love the ribbed stitching.
I ordered two sizes up because I had heard that it’s much more form fitting, and I’m glad I did because I like the slouchy fit of the bigger size.

Sweater #5: Gap Open Front Cardigan in Tan Camel, Size S
Retails for $98, but currently on sale for $78 with an extra 50% off all sale styles
This is one of my favorite additions to this year’s fall wardrobe. I realized last year that I really love the look of an extra long cardigan, but that I was missing a style with this camel color. It’s such a versatile color, and I knew (and already have) I would get a ton of wear out of it.
This one in particular is exactly what I was looking it for. It has a simple open front (I don’t like buttons on longer cardigans), big pockets, a very subtle shawl collar, and it’s made of a really pretty textured material. Plus, it’s very soft and warm. I honestly could not love this cardigan more so you can bet you’ll be seeing it in lots of upcoming “what I wore in a week” posts!

Sweater #6: Alex Mills Button Back Crewneck Sweater in Ivory/Dark Navy, Size Small
Retails for $120
Alex Mills is a newer brand to me, and I have to be honest… it took a lot of willpower not to add everything to my cart! I seriously love the whole vibe of their brand, and have bookmarked them as a repeat brand for future purchases.
This sweater in particular is filling a long standing hole in my wardrobe. I have been searching for a breton stripe sweater exactly like (that was in my price range) this for a few years now, and I was so pleased to finally find one! I knew I wanted 100% cotton so I could wear it all year (so cute with shorts in the summer!), and I also wanted a thicker cotton stitch like this so it would have weight to it. There’s something so lovely about the way heavy cotton knits drape. I’m also very picky about my breton stripes… I don’t like too thin, and I don’t like too thick, and this falls perfectly in the middle.
Lastly, I love how versatile this sweater is. You can wear it with the buttons in the front, in the back, or you can wear it open as a cardigan.

Sweater #7: Old Navy Pointelle Knit Cardigan in Graphite Heather, Size Small
Retails for $44.99, but currently 20% off with code SWEET
I’ll be honest, this sweater was a bit of an impulse purchase for me, but while I typically try to stay away from impulse purchases, this one was one I was confident in making. Currently I’m lacking in the gray sweater department, and this cardigan is a silhouette that I reach for a lot so I knew I would get a lot of use out of it.
It really is such a pretty shade of gray… almost like a smoky charcoal, and it has some extra special touches that I really love like the pointelle knit, the bobbling on the arms, and the slight balloon sleeves. It’s also very soft, and I love that it’s a bit of a thinner knit than some of my other chunkier cardigans so it will layer really well under coats when it gets colder.

Sweater #8: H&M Fine Knit Turtleneck Sweater in Black, Size S
Retails for $14.99
I have been so impressed with the fine knit range at H&M. While I’m not as sensitive to wool as I once thought I was, I have realized that for things that fit a bit more close to my body like a fine knit or a turtleneck, wool is a bit too itchy. This range of sweaters at H&M have really filled a big hole of soft, cozy, but fitted with zero itch.
I got a couple of these turtlenecks last year, and I got tons of wear out of them and I know I will continue to do so this year. And they still are in perfect condition! No pulled threads, stretched out fabric, or pilling. They are more of a medium weight knit so definitely not as thin as a cotton turtleneck. They’re honestly the perfect piece for layering for extra warmth, and as stand alone pieces. The knit looks very high end, even if the price point is low… and they’ve proved to be high quality as I’m now bringing them into a second season looking like they’re brand new.

Sweater #9: L.L. Bean Coastal Cotton Sweater in Paper White, Size Medium
Retails for $49.95
I really love this sweater. It’s so reminiscent of the Jenni Kayne fisherman sweater’s, that have a cult following, but at a fraction of the price. To be honest, I had one of the Jenni Kayne sweaters on my wishlist, but after owning this one I took it off.
It’s such a soft and cozy 100% cotton knit. It does have a very fitted fit so make sure to size up if you want the relaxed fit that I have. It’s also a little long, so keep that in mind if you’re not going to tuck it.
This is such a simple, basic sweater, but I love the ribbing on it, and the rounded, thick neckline with the wider cuffs. Those are the details which really make a sweater look like it’s more expensive than it actually is!
Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! I hope you enjoyed this peek into my favorite sweaters for fall. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
Oooh! I needed this. I’ve been looking at the Alex Mills vs L’Envers, and I keep Googling โis Jenni Kayne worth the price,” because $300 for a cotton sweater, no matter how many good reviews, scares me! I really like that Old Navy option, and the Gap reminds me of a Target duster I picked up two years ago and can style similarly. Thanks! ๐
Oh I’m so glad it was helpful! I feel the same way about Jenni Jayne! I’m happy to pay for the Babaa because it’s very unique and not something I feel like I can replicate, but the Jenni Kayne felt less so. The L.L. Bean is a great dupe!
Lovely group of sweaters! Too bad I really, truly don’t need any more, haha. Fun looking anyways.
I did want to ask where your watch in the third photo is from though. Is it vintage? If so and you bought it, could you share your source? I love those dainty little watches, and watches in general, but GIANT watches are the thing right now. I can only find little ones that are vintage, and it’s hard to be sure they will work.
Hi ALice! Hopefully you’ll get some styling inspo! You definitely don’t need to purchase anything to achieve a similar look as these are all pretty classic sweaters. ๐ My watch IS vintage. I got it on eBay just searching for “small gold bracelet vintage watch.” Hope that helps!
Definitely some good sweater styling inspiration!
And thanks! I just went down an e-bay rabbit hole…
You’re welcome! Have fun ๐
