My Favorite Coats for Fall + Which Ones I’m Saving For

Hello and happy Wednesday friends! I’ve got a fun post for you today: we’re talking my favorite coats for fall + which ones I’m saving for.

Coats are something that I have historically neglected when it came to building my wardrobe…

which is kind of silly because I live in a very frigid climate, and coats are kind of an essential item.

But they were always something I hated spending money on, and it’s mostly because they kind of felt like this necessary evil.

Like something I had to spend money on, not something I wanted to spend money on.

But over the last few years, I’ve really come to realize that coats can actually be a big style statement! While, yes, they should be practical and warm, they can also be something that adds to your outfit, and not just something that covers it.

So with that fresh perspective in mind, I’ve been slowly building up my coat collection.

I thought it would be fun to first show you some of the coats that I’ve curated over the last few years, and then also share with you some of the coats on my long term wishlist/save for list.

Because while I have put quite a bit of resources into the current coats that I do own, I have come to realize that coats are one of those clothing items where you truly do get what you pay for. And since I do live in a climate where coats are necessary, I really want to reserve any future coat purchases for high quality, investment pieces.

SO. Let’s look at the best coats in my current closet:

simple color palette, everlane drape trench, black turtleneck, white jeans, white converse, my favorite coats for fall

Coat and bag are PR. Coat review here

my favorite coats for fall, everlane renew wool coat

Sweater is Vetta (PR). Coat and boots are PR. Coat review here

my favorite coats for fall, classic trench coat

trench, boots, and purse are PR. Coat review here

Oatmeal Wrap Coat, everlane 90's cheeky jean, washed black jeans, western boots, abercrombie dad coat, my favorite coats for fall

Boots, bag, and sweater are PR. This coat runs true to size! It’s not lined, but it’s still extremely warm and with layers I’ll likely be able to get away with it for the rest of winter, except on the coldest of days. It’s a very thick and heavy wool, and it has a really pretty oatmeal color with the prettiest details like the big lapels, the wrap style, and a slit at the sides.

This coat is definitely more of a Fall coat so keep that in mind. It’s perfect for right now because it’s not too warm, and with some strategic layering it should stretch, but will likely not be warm enough for the really cold months. I’m wearing a Small. Still it’s such a classic coat/shape that I really enjoy having it in my collection for fall days when it’s no so cold yet.

Boots and denim are PR. This coat is very old so no use reviewing it. I linked to a few similar options.

So now that I ran you through my favorite coats, let’s chat about the coats I’m wanting to invest in, and why:

curated classic black coat

A long black coat. I have an older coat from J.Crew that is wool and black that is longer, but it’s too small for any sort of layering. So I never really reach for it once the weather turns cool, which means my wardrobe feels lacking in a warm, long, black coat… which is kind of a staple piece!

I’ve heard amazing things about the Curated recently, and so I’m leaning towards investing in their Classic Black Coat. I like that it’s long, but not maxi length because I find on my 5’5″ frame super long coats often feel like too much. This one hits mid calf which is the perfect length for me. It also has a wrap, which I like as I find that style is something I’m drawn to. It retails for $350 which is definitely an investment, but not as steep as some price tags I’ve seen.

The next coat I’m interested in is a longer, lighter camel colored coat. The camel trench I have above is a very warm, deep camel color which is beautiful, but I want something a bit more muted that is not in a trench style.

Also, from the Curated, I’m eying their Camel Boyfriend Coat which retails for $425. A pretty hefty price tag, but it’s exactly what I’m looking for and I know the quality is there.

And finally, I’m also in the market for a double breasted navy coat, but I haven’t found one yet that seems worth the investment so my search continues.

Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! I hope you enjoyed this roundup up my favorite coats for fall. Are you a coat person like I’m becoming? Or do you prefer to have one practical coat that goes with everything. Let me know in the comments!
