Wide Leg Pants: 3 Ways to Style Them

Happy Wednesday friends! I have a fun styling post for you today: 3 ways to style wide leg pants.

A few weeks ago, I wore my Everlane wide leg pants for the first time this season, and I realized how much I still really love them.

I’ve had them for about three years now, and they are one of those clothing items that just feel good to wear every time you reach for them.

They’re surprisingly easy to style, and because of that they are extremely versatile. They are probably one of my most utilized pieces of clothing in my closet.

So it gave me the idea to do this post. But instead of just styling the wide leg pants 3 different ways I thought I would do an entire base…

so I chose a turtleneck to go with the pants, and I styled that base in 3 different ways.

I’ve done a wide leg pants styling post before, but I really wanted this post to focus in more on one pant with one base so you don’t feel like you have to have a lot of options. Just one will do!

I love these kinds of styling exercises because they really do allow you to get the most bang for your buck with your wardrobe. I think it’s easy to get stuck in style ruts, and wear a piece of clothing in the same way every time, but taking the time to try out different styling techniques with that piece of clothing will make your wardrobe feel bigger than it actually is.

SO. With all of that said, let’s see how I styled the pants:

(just a quick note that if you want to order these pants for yourself, they run big so order them a size down).

I love this take on wearing wide leg pants. I like that the fitted sweater contrasts with the wideness in the legs. In fact, if you struggle with wearing wide leg pants, one of my biggest bits of advice is to balance out the proportions, and this look is a perfect example. These pants are nice and stretchy so they easily accommodate the sweater, and the turtleneck fabric underneath the waistline.

This is such a great versatile outfit – you can wear it for casual Friday, on the weekend, etc. While it looks structured, everything is made of cozy and comfortable fabrics so it feels very easy to wear. If you really wanted to elevate this look, just swap out the sneakers for a more dressy shoe.

This is a super easy, classic look to pull of. I know I said above that it helps to balance out the pants by doing more fitted on top, but when done correctly you can play around with those proportions. So in this case, I did a blousier fit on top, but I kept it simple with my shoes. Another super easy way to balance everything out would be to wear the denim shirt unbuttoned like a jacket to allow the slimness of the turtleneck underneath to play against the volume in the pants. And of course, you don’t need to reach for such an oversized shirt on top. This look would work with any button down!

Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I personally like to style wide leg pants. Do you guys love wide leg pants? Or do they seem a little intimidating? Let me know in the comments! Also, let me know how you like to style them!

Until next time,
