Happy Friday friends!
Goodness I’ve had a week. I don’t know if I could even tell you what made it a week, but it’s just been one of those weeks where things felt harder than usual.
Kind of like trying to go on a walk when humidity is at an all time high. It should be as easy as normal, but there’s just something pressing back on you making it harder.
So yeah. One of those kind of weeks.
When I used to have these kinds of weeks pre kids I kind of just dealt with it, and moved on, but now that we have our four little precious kiddos, it’s a lot harder to be walking through your week in a funk.
So I guess all that to say that I’m entering the weekend feeling a bit burnt out, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to rest and recharge as much as possible.
Anyone else feeling that too?
I’m honestly so thankful for this space that I can show up at every week, and have a community of people who I can chat with about our mutual love of style, etc.
Everyone always prefaces those kinds of sentiments with “I know it may seem trivial,” but honestly? I don’t think there’s anything trivial about finding lighthearted enjoyment in artistic expression.
I used to think that enjoying more lighthearted hobbies somehow discounted the heavier stuff in life, but as I’ve grown I’ve realized that the two need to coexist. We can’t always focus our energy on the heavy stuff, and we can’t always focus our energy on the lighter stuff.
There is health in the balance. We can give ourselves permission to experience joy and pain.
Well that was a bit of a tangent! I wasn’t planning on writing that today, but apparently it’s what my fingers and brain wanted to type.
Today I’ve got some fun summer to fall transition outfits for you guys.
This is one of my favorite time of years… there’s so much anticipation of a new season, a season of hunkering down and growing much more still.
We always pack our summers with lots of activity, and right about this time every year I start to really crave a slower pace with lots of yummy scents and comfort food.
AND I love that it suddenly becomes totally acceptable to wear blankets as clothing (har har).
But yes, the fall fashion has me excited as well. I’ve noticed that when it comes to my summer weather dressing I lean towards expressing my much more romantic, girly side, but when it comes to cooler weather dressing I lean towards my much more minimalistic, practical side.
Lately I’ve been really inspired by the likes of Brittany Bathgate, Alexis Foreman, and Death by Elocution. I’ve just been so drawn to the rich yet neutral tones, interesting shapes, and monochrome outfits that all three pull off so well.
So I think you may see some of that juxtaposition in the warm vs. cool weather outfits.
Let’s get to them shall we?
Transitional Piece: the Sundress

One of the easiest things you can do to make an outfit Fall ready is to throw on a denim jacket, but I especially love this trick over a summer dress.
Fit notes (click the images above to shop):
Dress review here
Sandals: I’m a true 9, and I wear a 39 in Birkenstocks
Jacket: I’m wearing it in a small, and I typically wear an XS at Madewell
Sneakers: these are the new easy sneaker, and I have to say that Everlane just does SO WELL at sneakers. These were comfy right out of the box with no rubbing or needing to break in. I got my true size 9, and they fit perfect (just a tiny bit of room in there just in case I want to wear socks).
Transitional Piece: the Light-wash Jean

Affiliate Links. Shirt, flip flops, and mules were gifted
I’ve really come to love light-wash denim all year round. I always used to reach for my darker washes when the weather turned cooler, but there is something delightfully vintage about a pair of light-wash Levi’s with an oversized sweater (Sandra Bullock in While you Were Sleeping anyone??).

Short Sleeve shirt review here
Jeans: these run super big so I would size down 1-2 sizes. I hover between a 27 or a 26 in most jeans, and I got these in a 25. They do feel a bit snug, but they are stretchy so I know they’ll stretch out a bit
Flip Flops review here
Sweater: I’m typically an XS-S in Everlane sizes, but I got this in a size large for this slouchy look
Long Sleeve shirt: runs really big, but I got it in a medium for an extra oversized fit. For a normal oversized fit go with your typical size, and for a slight oversized fit go a size down.
Mules: run true to size
Transitional Piece: the Black Pant
Shop my Looks
Affiliate links. Blouse, pants, trench, and flats were gifted
Both of these looks are super casual, but I love what an interesting blouse or a structured trench do for an outfit. Still super low key, but now you look like you really put some effort in! But even just swapping out the straw bag for the brown handbag would instantly make this a more fall-ish outfit. Little tweaks can go a long way!
Fit notes (click the images above to shop):
Puff sleeve blouse: runs true to size
Pants: these run so big. I used to have them in the warm brown color in a size 4 (I’m a 26.5″ waist), and they literally were so huge they wouldn’t stay up. I have been living in my Everlane long chino shorts lately though (these only run slightly big, I sized down one size) so I wanted to try the pants version again in a black. This time I sized down two full sizes, and… they fit perfectly! Crazy!
Sandal review here
Breton stripe top: this runs pretty true to size, but I sized up to a medium for a more slouchy fit. Such a lovely top by the way! The material is so substantial and it’s definitely a step up from a regular t-shirt.
Mac coat: I got this in a size XS, and it fits perfectly oversized. Sizing up would have made the sleeves way too long.
Ballet Flats: OOOOH I love these so much!! These are the new Day Ballet flats from Everlane, and it was love at first sight for me. First: just as comfy (if not comfier) than their day flat, but with the added detail of the square toe and the bow they are perfection. I got my true size 9, but I could have gotten away with an 8.5 so I would say to size down to your smaller size (but I wouldn’t go down a full size).
Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys! I hope you enjoyed this look at some summer to fall transition outfit ideas!
Now you tell me: what are you most looking forward to wearing this fall? AND what are you most looking forward to eating this fall?
Mine are: cozy sweaters and hearty soups with sourdough bread (YUM).

HI Karin,
Iove the necklace golden necklace from etsey. I would like to purchase it but I can’t find anything on her store page about her companies sustainability. How is she sustainable ?
thanks !
Cara
Hi Cara! That’s a great question, and not one I have an answer to! I’d suggest e-mailing the shop on Etsy and asking them directly. ♥️
Loved this post Karin, shining about thoughtful transition pieces makes a huge difference. I need to get into ballet flats too!
Thank you Emma!
