Fall is riiiiiight around the corner you guys… and I have mixed feelings about it ha! While I’m still very much in summer mode with my attitude, my wardrobe energy is very focused on fall at the moment. There have been a few new fall collections released in the last couple of weeks, but the one I was most excited about? Madewell. I love Madewell year round, but fall is when they really shine and I always look forward to perusing their new cool weather releases.
And plus, as a bonus for you guys, Madewell is having a 25% off sale at the moment and everything in this post except for the jeans is included!
The piece that I’m most excited about though is this trench coat. I’m always on the lookout for a good trench coat, but I’m pretty picky when it comes to which ones I add to my coat wardrobe. The biggest issue I find with other styles is that they wrinkle so darn easily and no one wants to be steaming their coats before every wear. Any guesses where this is going?
This trench coat feels like a typical trench coat material, but it’s very wrinkle resistant (yay!). It’s also a much thicker material than some of the other trench coats I’ve tried so there is an extra layer of warmth to it that I appreciate in the Midwest. The coat also has a slight puff at the cuff which is actually genius because there is lots of room for chunky layers underneath. The rest of the trench coat is very classic though so what you’re left with is a classic… with a twist.
And a final thing to note: the color has such a pretty retro feel to it so I feel like I’ve stepped back in time every time I wear it, but at the same time it’s such a classic piece that it also feels very current. The best of both worlds!
I love it paired with this striped cardigan, another piece that adds to the retro feel. I was really surprised by how luxe this sweater felt. It’s so soft and weighty and is a lot warmer than I was expecting. It has such a pretty ribbed detail to it, and the neckline is pretty but also not so low as to be impractical. I love the length – it’s slightly cropped on me without being too cropped.
The colors work really well with the darker wash jeans (which I’m seeing a lot more of for this fall). These are the perfect vintage straight jeans (which I reviewed here), but I did cut the hem to make them cropped, the result being that they look a little more bootcut than straight (another big trend this fall)… overall I love the effect, and I felt very retro and cool in this outfit.
A few other Madewell fall pieces I’m excited to wear once the weather cools off:
Leggings (s)
How fun are these leggings? And SO comfortable. I love the looser fit leg for a fresh way to wear leggings this fall. I think they look super cool with the trench coat for a casual weekend look. They run a bit big so stick with your smaller size.
How cute are these boots?! They’re exactly what I’ve been looking for and as a bonus they are super comfortable. I can’t wait to wear these with a cute cream colored slouchy sock. I find that my true size fits with enough room to do a good sock.
Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! I hope you enjoyed this little Madewell haul… are you as excited as I am for fall fashion?
Until next time,
Karin
