We had a warmish weekend with one TRULY warm day, and you better believe that I took advantage of it by pulling out my mules and a spring dress! People may not understand that particular mindset of us Northerners, but the truth is… pulling out clothing that isn’t weather appropriate is what gets us through some very dark winter days ha! I usually start out winter with full motivation to dress warmly enough for the elements, but I always lose steam right around this time… it’s inevitable and I accept it.
But speaking of losing steam: I am done with my feeble attempt at a winter capsule wardrobe. I fully learned my lesson this time. Capsule wardrobes are just not for me. They were during a certain season of my life when I had zero bandwidth to think of clothing, but now that I am enjoying my wardrobe once again, I don’t like the limits and rules that come with capsule wardrobes. I know they are a saving grace for lots of people… but they strip the fun out of dressing for me personally.
So I’m quitting ha! Even though I never really did one since my winter progressive capsule ended up being 50+ items in two months… a sure sign that I really am using and enjoying ALL of the clothes in my wardrobe.
BUT one thing I’m bringing with me is the daily outfit posts… but in a slightly different way. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be treating my blog a little like it’s Instagram – I’ll be uploading a daily outfit photo… so not a blog post, just a photo of my outfit and links to what I’m wearing. These photos will not be housed on my main blog feed, they will be accessible from the “daily looks” link in my top menu or from the “daily looks” preview halfway down my home page.
I’ll still be sharing regular blog posts a few times a week so the daily outfit photos are in addition to regular blog content.
I’m excited to go in this direction… it’ll give me the ability to share both of the types of content I want to share with you, and as I move away from using Instagram as much as I have in the past, it will give me the option to keep everything in house.
And you know what? I don’t know if it’s the warmer weather, or that spring is just around the corner, but for the first time in a good long while, I am feeling excited and energized with my wardrobe. It feels good!
Until next time,
Karin
Love this Karin! I also don’t think I’m a capsule wardrobe person. I love variety! I’m also moving towards a place of loving most of the things in my wardrobe and it feels sooo good.
I don’t think everyone is and that’s okay! I feel the same way – I just don’t love the constraints! I’m glad you’re loving your wardrobe, it’s a good feeling!
YAY!! I love this. I don’t have an Instagram account because I’ve never desired to (friends have warned me it’s a big time-suck) and I’m sad that many/most bloggers are moving a lot of content there, where I can’t see it. Thank you! I love outfit ideas as well as longer content.
It definitely is a time suck so I commend you for staying off of it! I like the idea of making my content accessible outside of the confines of social media, and I’m glad to hear it will be helpful for you!
Ah to be honest, I was so happy to read this. You put how I feel about capsules into words. I’m all for people doing capsules if that is something that is helpful to them! But as a creative and someone who loves fashion, I’ve always felt like— why does it seem like everyone loves capsules, am I the only one who doesn’t enjoy them? Am I weird? I hate the idea of restricting my wardrobe— like not wearing clothes that I already own. Give me all the crayons from the crayon box to draw with. I aim to be intentional and not just go crazy with consumption, but I love to be creative and make fun outfits and explore new-ness in fashion!!
You’re definitely not weird Michelle! In my real life there’s a lot of people who think Capsule Wardrobes are the weirdest thing, so I think sometimes in our social media worlds it can seem like everyone is doing something or feels a certain way when really that’s not true at all! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with utilizing all of our clothing or having more than 32 pieces per season… intentionality can still be a priority without the small number. 🙂
Oh my goodness, you’re right! When I think about it, I actually don’t know anyone from my real life who does capsules! Kinda mind blown right now. haha
excited for this! i’m personally looking forward to what seems like an inevitable shift away from instagram and towards slower media like blogs and forums again. can’t wait to check out your looks, love your blog. <3
Thanks Kendall! I like the idea of not relying on algorithms, and I’m glad to hear you guys are on board as well!
