This post is getting to you a little later in the day than I normally have it posted, but… oh well ha!

I haven’t been feeling well this week, and yesterday I decided to take a nap instead of working on this, and well, priorities. 🙂

And in case you are wondering, trying to take a nap while a toddler is having independent play time in the other room goes about how it sounds. It’s more of a rest with your eyes closed.

But moving on to the point of this post:

I don’t have a lot of weekly favorites this week, but I do have a few things to say about specific pieces in this week’s roundup so I think we’ll just focus on the clothes today.

I finally went for it, and ordered a pair of the Everlane day boots after hemming and hawing over it since they were released. I just wasn’t sure if the style was quite right for me, but after deciding to give them a try I’m so glad I did! The leather is so incredibly soft (I would argue even softer than the day glove), and comfortable. I had zero break in time with them. I was also worried that the heel would be too much for me, as I’m usually a strict flats girl, but they’re really not noticeable at all. I mean, these definitely aren’t the shoes to be wearing when it’s super slippery and snowy out, but the width of the heel make them really easy to walk in. I chose the creamy Ecru color because it was a bit different, but they come in more “typical” colors as well.

Another pair of boots I’ve picked up recently are these Dr. Marten’s. Funny story about these shoes: when they were cool the first time around, I was in high school. It seemed like everyone had this particular style, but my family wasn’t able to afford them so I went without. I have since recovered from the disappointment of not having the “it” shoe, so I felt a little silly purchasing this pair. But I’ve been on the hunt for a great pair of lace up boots for awhile now, and after seeing Brianna from the Constant Closet (who’s no longer on Instagram) style them so much over the fall I decided to try these out… and the verdict is: I really like them ha! I haven’t had them that long so I’ll keep you posted on more thoughts later on.

And finally I decided to test out a pair of Madewell’s new eco denim for you guys. According to their website they are made from organic cotton that is sustainably dyed using shrimp shells (which requires 65% less chemicals, and 75% less water than conventional fabric). They are manufactured in the fair trade certified factory Saitex, and for each product manufactured they contribute to a community development fund managed by the worker. You can read more about their process here. And better yet, Madewell/J.Crew plan to move more of their other styles in the same direction… and they plan to move some (and eventually all) of their key factories through the fair trade certification process in coming years (info pulled from this article). Of course all of this will take time, but it’s pretty exciting! It’s proof that the mainstream fashion industry is hearing the ethical fashion community.

But back to this specific pair of jeans: I chose the 9″ high rise skinny jean after my friend Leah shared them in her stories on Instagram. I haven’t really been into skinny jeans this entire season, but she shared that they have a looser hip and thigh than some other styles so I gave them a shot. They definitely aren’t as “suck you in” as some other styles of skinny jeans, but I will say they still fit like a traditional skinny jean. And like every other pair of Madewell denim that I’ve found they are super comfortable and stretchy, but still manage to hold their shape (Madewell just does denim super well). And bonus! Madewell has a wide range of sizes for all my petite and plus size friends. If you’re in the market for denim I’d definitely give these a try!

Well that’s it for today friends! I’ll be at my parent’s all next week so if I don’t manage to get blog posts up, don’t worry. 😉 I have plans to post, but I may end up deciding just to take a break.

I hope you all have a good weekend!

Until next time,

Karin

Is Leah back on Instagram? I’ve missed her in that space!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Madewell denim – I’m excited that they are moving in that direction (finally).

These boots I took true to size, and same with my Everlane shoes.
