Why I Love Rainy Days

The day that we took these pictures was a gray and rainy day.

I kind of loved it.

I’ve talked before about my love of water, but I’m also one of the rare people that actually prefers rainy days to hot and sunny days (Maybe I’m a Vampire? No?).

There is something about a gray, rainy day that causes you to stop and reflect.

I often find that sunny days tend to distract me from my inner thoughts. I fill sunny days with activity after activity and become absorbed in what I’m doing.

Rainy days on the other hand force you inward. Sounds are muffled, lights are dimmed, activities tend to slow down. You are left with space to think and reflect and grow.

There are so many things in life that pull at us. Social media gives us an instant out anytime we want to run away from our feelings.

But on rainy days I find myself craving an escape from those distractions. I love to brew a cup of coffee and just sit with my thoughts.

I think people are often scared to do that… to sit with their thoughts. And I don’t blame them. Allowing your thoughts to naturally form without any distractions makes you aware of who you really are and I often don’t like who I am at that moment, but I find that in those moments of honesty I can face the things I don’t like and I can move away from them.

It’s so good to find that space for reflection. I crave it.

What about you? Do you enjoy rainy days as much as I do?

Until next time,

I don’t love rainy days as much as you do, but your point of view is encouraging me to see them in a different light…so thank you! I love the beautiful photos too.

I absolutely love those red shoes! I love the sun, but I get what you mean about using rainy days to relax and reflect. It’s rainy today and I feel like going home and resting for sure

I used to love rainy days. Then, my kids became active! I long for a rainy day to be alone with my thoughts and be able to read, but alas… most of the days that are rainy are trying to keep stir crazy kids from killing each other :/ There are some rainy day activities though, that I love with he kids: play-doh, painting, reading stories. I am trying to help them embrace rainy days too : )

I love your outfit in these photos especially your jacket and the pop of red from your flats! I am a Florida girl so I prefer it to be sunny and warm, but when it’s not, it better be dark and pouring down rain, none of that in between gloomy stuff. When I was working full-time and the weather was blah, I wanted nothing more than to be home on the couch with my thoughts. But now that I’m a SAHM, I have too much time with my thoughts and it has made me over analyze every part of my life. Too many gray days in a row and I started to feel depression creeping back in on me. I wish I could be happy and productive in all kinds of weather, but 28 years of Florida living has made me a sun worshipper.

I so agree! I looove rainy days! My favorite day is when I can be home all day baking cinnamon rolls, reading books, and having coffee with my hubs as it pours outside. That day doesn’t happen that often, but when it does I am so happy!

I enjoy rainy days when they happen occasionally. If we get like 15 in a row, I’m done. I don’t like super hot, but I do like a little sunshine. They really are gorgeous pictures, though.
