I thought I would do something a little different and show you two outfits that are basically the same thing: one today and one on Friday. Style suicide for a fashion blogger right?? Well being that I am a capsule wardrobe fashion blogger I thought it would be helpful for you to see a couple of ways to wear the same outfit, but still look like you are wearing something different. Today, I give you the jean jacket option. This plaid shirt has gotten a lot of wearsΒ and I’m sure it will continue to do so. Plus, we all know how I feel about my converse… #obsessedmuch? On Friday, I’ll show you how to switch it up by adding a different top layer.

One thing that I am finding that I really love about doing a capsule wardrobe is that it really helps refine your sense of style.

When I had a lot of unnecessary clothing there were things that I kept in my wardrobe just because I “should” (according to whose rules exactly??). For example, regular blue skinny jeans, a.ka. jeggings.

Side note: my husband was really proud when he learned that word… ha!

For whatever reason I prefer the look of black skinny jeans to blue ones. Even so, I’ve always owned a pair of blue skinny jeans just because you “should”, but I rarely ever wear them.

So I’m playing around with the idea of not having a blue pair in my winter capsule and just seeing how it goes to actually not have them. It’s one thing to say I don’t want them while I still have the security blanket of having them you know?

Having a capsule wardrobe really makes you confront the things that you wear just to check an item off of a list. Why? Because having such a small amount of clothing to work with you definitely notice what you reach for often and what you don’t.

Do you have any clothing like that? That you put in your closet just because you “should?” Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

This is a great casual look. I really like the idea of a capsule wardrobe but in reality it just wouldn’t work for me. I prefer to have a bunch of options! I do frequently go through my closet and get rid of clothes I no longer wear so that helps a lot.

To each his own! πŸ™‚ You have to do what works for you right? That’s great though that you aren’t hanging on to things you don’t use or need.

LOVE the look, but being a short somewhat overweight Grandma I find it so hard to look “cute” now. haahaaa But I love your ideas so I’ll be back soon! I may just find something I might look good in!

I have a capsule wardrobe, if you ignore all the random pieces of clothing I have that I never wear. I have a lot of semi formal/dress up stuff that I never wear, because I don’t enjoy them. I should just let them go.

I love your denim jacket! The blazer cut is unexpected and really cool. I’ve had a lot of “fashion musts” in my closet over the years, but for some reason I am still holding on to a black suit (jacket + skirt) I bought on super sale from The Limited years ago! I hate wearing black. All my LBDs are LNBDs (little navy blue dresses). Yet I still have that suit. On the other hand I LOVE a good dark blue jegging; it is without a doubt my must-have A/W capsule item πŸ™‚

Thanks Lauren! I know what you mean about the black suit… I have a few formal dresses that I’m in the same boat with. I wish I was into jeggings because I like how they look on other people… I just can’t get behind them for some reason!

Love the idea of owning what works for you and ditching the rest. I personally live in dark denim, but I’m definitely not a fan of peplum tops. They are just so NOT for me. πŸ™‚ Cute photos, too! πŸ™‚

Thanks Kayla! I think we just have to admit that our body types are all very unique and we just can’t fit in every fashion trend that comes along. It’s taken me awhile to admit that, but it’s refreshing now that I’m beginning to.

Cute pictures, cute baby, and cute outfit! πŸ™‚ I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but I’ve never really taken the time to
put one into place. Although, I do seem to wear the same outfits on repeat, but mostly because they are all that fit. I think I need to subscribe for your planning guide!

Such cute looks! I hardly ever wear black pants, so I think we’re in the opposite boat but with the same sentiment! Dark blue skinny jeans are my jam – lighter blue & black, not so much.

Black skinny jeans are the best! Really loving the capsule wardrobe movement — so motivating to see others downsize and focus on what pieces matter most.
