Jenni Kayne Cocoon Cardigan Review & Comparison

Happy Monday friends! Thanks for your patience the last couple of weeks, I’ll have a life update up for you guys soon because there’s a lot to chat about, but the short story is: I’ve been dealing with a cluster migraine cycle and, while I’m on week 3 of the cycle, I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m now down to every other day so I’m hopeful that I’ll be done with it by the end of this month. All that to say, it’s been a bit hard for me to get stuff done so I’ve been a bit absent lately.

SO. I decided to get back on my regular schedule of posting with a MUCH requested blog post: a review of my Jenni Kayne Cocoon Cardigans. I’ve been meaning to do this one for awhile, but for various reasons it’s been put on the back burner… but now that we’re heading into fall I want to give you as much information as possible so you can make an informed decision seeing as they are a pretty hefty investment.

I’ll do the reviews in order of how long I’ve owned them so we’ll start with the cashmere, move to the cable knit, and finish with the cotton:

Jenni Kayne Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan in a size XS (this color is no longer available, it was the undyed version)

Fit: the cashmere version runs oversized so if you are in between sizes I would go with your smaller size… but I wouldn’t necessarily size down because part of what makes this cardigan so special is that oversized fit. It just has the most beautiful, slouchy fit and the cardigan hangs in the prettiest way. It’s lightweight, but yet it still hangs as if it has more weight. I love rolling up the cuffs a few times for an effortless look, but just an FYI the sleeves don’t stay up when you push them up above your elbows. I fix that problem by putting one of these hair ties around my forearm so that the sleeves will stay up. I’m 5’5″ and the cardigan hits right under my bum so it’s also a great option for pairing with leggings. The fit on the cashmere version really is so special… I’ve never found a cardigan with such a beautiful fit.

Material: I have never felt a cashmere as soft and beautiful as this cardigan. It’s just incredibly nice and it doesn’t have an ounce of itch in it. I wear this sweater a lot for lounging because it is literally the softest thing I own. It does pill up a bit, but I have found that I only need to do maintenance on it at the end of each season (I use this sweater stone), so it’s not a fussy sweater at all.

Overall thoughts: Even though there is a huge expense with this sweater, it is 100% worth the investment. It is the most beautiful thing I own and I have worn it countless times since I got it. It’s just such a special sweater, and if you were to buy one thing from Jenni Kayne, I’d recommend it be this.

Fit: the cable cocoon is also an oversized fit, but it doesn’t fit in quite the same way as the cashmere cocoon. It still has the same generous roominess, but it doesn’t hang in the same beautiful way as the cashmere. The material is quite a bit heavier, but because it’s made of an alpaca, merino wool blend it doesn’t have that same luxe drape to it. That’s not to say that it doesn’t hang well though. I love that it’s just really slouchy and roomy. I also love cuffing the sleeves on this one as well to give it that same effortless look, and bonus! This one’s sleeves stay up a lot better.

Material: this is the warmest cardigan of the bunch and the alpaca/wool mix is a really nice, heavy weight. It’s a very cozy sweater and it’s the one I reach for most often between November to February. This one is the heartiest of the three as well and I haven’t found a need to take a sweater stone to it yet (I’ve had it for almost a year). Like the cashmere version, it’s incredibly soft and it also doesn’t have an ounce of itch.

Overall thoughts: this is a beautiful, warm and cozy cardigan and the cable pattern makes it such a classic. While I love the drape of the cashmere and the overall feel of the fabric on that one, this one is a great option if you’re more interested in warmth. I reach for this one almost as much as the cashmere so if you can swing both I definitely would.

Jenni Kayne Cotton Cocoon Cardigan in a size Small, Ivory

Fit: The fit on the cotton cocoon is much more true to size than the other two. In fact, I wish I would have gone up even one more size so if you like a more generous fit, I would definitely size up. But if you’re someone who likes a closer fit this is the best cardigan of the trio for you. As you can see in the photos, this one is also the shortest as it hits right at the middle of my hip and there’s less room in the body of the sweater. It still has a really beautiful fit, but it’s hard not to find fault with it when you compare it to the really special fit of the first two.

Material: The cotton cocoon is much more lightweight than I thought it would be, but it’s still a very soft cotton. It doesn’t scratch at my skin at all and the stitching doesn’t irritate my skin like some other cotton sweaters do. It feels really silky somehow, and it’s very comfortable to wear. I do find that the lightweight material makes the drape on this one my least favorite, but it’s also one of the most beautiful cotton sweaters I’ve ever seen. This one is the most fussy (surprisingly!) of the three however because the fabric does snag a bit if you’re not careful.

Overall thoughts: I do love this sweater particularly for warmer weather because it’s the most beautiful, and practical sweater to throw over an outfit on a summer evening… and it has such a classic look to it that it’s a really lovely sweater to have on rotation in your closet. It’s still my least favorite of the three for two reasons: I regret that I didn’t size up, and the snagging does make it a bit tricky to wear around my kids and dog which isn’t the most practical for my lifestyle.

Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys! I really hope you found this Jenni Kayne cocoon cardigan review helpful. I totally get why so many of you asked for a review… it’s hard to spend this much on a sweater, but hopefully my review gave you a bit more confidence. As always, please feel free to ask any questions in the comments if I missed anything!

Until next time,

Karin
