Hello and happy Friday my friends! As you’re reading this my family will be eating our way through the Minnesota State Fair and in my mind that means Fall is right around the corner. It’s always the last hurrah of the summer before school starts and there’s just this feeling of finality that it gives and even though the weather doesn’t change it definitely signals a transition into a new season.
And I’ve definitely been in the fall mindset when it comes to clothing – for myself yes, but I’ve been ordering some clothes for the kids for fall so I’m in the full on cozy comfy fall clothing zone right now. However, as is always the case this time of year, the weather does not cooperate with my hyper focused shopping modes so it is unfortunate I who has to modify my behavior, and not the weather.
Thankfully, the clothes I have to show you today are all perfect for this transitional season and can work with not only your fall mood, but also reality.
I have been very blessed to work with J. Crew’s affiliate program for the past year and they kindly send me my choice of clothing each month so that I can share them with you guys if I really like them. They have no requirement for me to post, but if I do genuinely love something they send (occasionally they send things I don’t like, but I don’t share those with you) love sharing those things with you because I’ve had a love affair with J. Crew since high school. Anyway, all that to say, I’ve got some J. Crew transitional goodies to share with you today… so let’s get to it:
Wearing the Maude Dress in a size small
This dress is gorgeous. I have to say, the last few summers J. Crew has made some of my favorite dresses – there is just something so beautifully simplistic about their dress designs and the materials and fits are perfection. This is my first floral dress from J. Crew and the floral print is beautiful- I’m really particular about my florals, and honestly I usually only like Dôen florals, but this one is just as beautiful as any of my Dôen prints. The fabric is also a super nice twill that feels substantial but also cool and soft on a hot day – I refuse to wear fabrics that are not breathable because with my sensory issues it makes me feel like I’m crawling out of my skin if I have sweaty fabric clinging to me on hot days – this passed the test.
Wearing the Emilie Sweater Lady Jacket
I already have the Emilie Sweater in two other colors, and I really love it, BUT my one complaint with it was that I wished it was a little less… “smart” as they say in the UK. I’m fully in my baggy era and it’s 100% because I can finally find and purchase baggy clothing after years of skinny jeans and fitted tops. I mentioned above that I have sensory issues with clothing and that has honestly meant years of suffering through hours of discomfort and then immediately changing into cozy pajamas the minute I get home. I’ve always tried to find work around as to the skinny jean trend by looking for the stretchiest version I could find or by wearing skirts and dresses, etc, but now that baggy clothes are readily available I am ALL for it. What I’m trying to say is that my preference is always going to be a more oversized fit… so I was really excited to see that J. Crew updated the fit on their Emilie Jacket to be a more relaxed, oversized fit. It’s a subtle difference, but there’s more room in the arms, and the fit is a bit more boxy. I went for my normal medium (which is a size up for me) in sweaters and it gives that perfect “I’m not trying that hard” vibe. The material feels the same as the older version however with the nice, thick cotton material.
Wearing the Full Length Slim Wide Jean in a size 26 and the Vintage Jersey Long Sleeve T-Shirt in a medium
You guys know how much I love a good pair of jeans, so I couldn’t resist trying the full length version of these slim wide leg jeans. They feel exactly the same in terms of slight stretch and comfort level, but I do love a pair of full length jeans (never did I ever think I’d say that) so I think I love this version even more. I mostly reach for 100% cotton in my jeans, but the stretch on these is subtle enough that I don’t feel it bagging out or causing weird “stretch marks” on the jeans (other than the few unavoidable tell tale marks at the crotch that you just can’t escape with stretch jeans) so I’m on board with these. I love the classic blue wash too, I don’t have this exact shade of blue without it having some sort of vintage style fading in my other jeans so I like having a pair that has a very classic light blue (but not too light) wash with no bells and whistles. I took my true size in these and I’d suggest doing the same.
I’ve really loved the last few J. Crew tees that I’ve tried. I know some people were complaining about the quality of their tee material in recent years, and I think they have really listened because the most recent releases have felt much more substantial than the tees I have of theirs from a few years ago. The material is thicker, silkier, and it lays so much better. To be honest, it feels like the quality of some of my much more expensive tees and I’m pretty ecstatic because good basics are so hard to come by! I always size up in my tees and I did the same in this one.
And finally, they just released their Fall lineup and I’ve got my eye on three things in particular that look SO good. First is this gorgeous chocolate brown suede bag. I’ve had a fall bag in that color on my wishlist for a couple of seasons now and this one is exactly what I’ve been wanting in a price range that works for me. I’m also loving this v-neck cotton sweater. Their cotton sweaters have become staples on high rotation in my wardrobe in recent years and I LOVE this new version – especially the way they have it styled on the website. And finally, this denim chore jacket looks like my kind of denim jacket. I keep trying to make a denim jacket work and I just can’t seem to feel like “me” in the classic style… but this one? This could do it. And last, but not least, they brought back my favorite boots that I wore nonstop last winter. On their own they’re not the most practical for Minnesota winters, but with these anti skid add ons they became my go to’s.
Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! It’s been awhile since I did a formal review for you so I felt a bit rusty! Hopefully it was helpful 🙃. Have a good weekend everyone!
Until next time,
Karin
