The Retro Outfit – Fall Capsule Wardrobe ’21 Outfit 8

Today has been the rainiest, gloomiest day and I LOVE it (perfect mood for a retro outfit actually ?). There’s just something so introspective about a cozy day inside when the weather isn’t cooperating outside. The only drawback is that the bus stop tends to be a bit soggy. 🙂 I guess there’s worse things though. Especially because, as I type this, I’m curled up on the couch under a blanket with a fall candle burning and listening to Gregory Alan Isakov on Spotify. Life could be worse my friends!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved a good retro outfit… just ask anyone who knew me in college ha! In fact, there was this photo of Farrah Fawcett riding on a skateboard wearing the best retro Nikes, and that’s what I modeled my style after for the longest time. I wouldn’t say I still feel that way, but there is something fun about putting an outfit together that gives a very strong nod to the past… and today’s outfit definitely does that.

These HIGH rise boot leg jeans (part of Revolve’s new sustainable collection with Lovers & Friends) paired with this new cardigan from Everlane (which I will do a full review of soon) makes for a great combo. I do think a capsule wardrobe needs to be filled with lots of basics, but it IS fun to spice things up a bit with some pieces you wouldn’t expect (like a boot leg jean)… especially when those pieces still act as basics. It gives your wardrobe a lot more personality without it needing to be filled with a bunch of extra stuff. And it gives you a little more wiggle room for playing around with your wardrobe. In my case, this outfit was very unexpected but I do love how it turned out!
