The last few weeks feel like I blinked and they were gone. Somehow January always seems to be that way.

Everything is so quiet and slow.

The holidays are over and the snow has set in…

and it’s so quiet.

Before I know what’s happened, it’s almost over and we haven’t accomplished much.

I’m beyond okay with that.

After the holidays, I need January.

This morning, my hubby told me to sleep in and to take some time for myself (he’s kind of the best).

It was so gray and snowy out so I decided to bundle up, put some Walter Mitty soundtrack on, and go for a walk.

It was so enchanting watching the snow fall and to feel the cold air on my face.

It was a moment of such amazing clarity for me.

And I realized how happy my little life is, even when it’s hard.

I need to take these moments more. To choose to see my happy life for what it really is.

Thank you January.

Until next time,

This January hasn’t been the best for me so I will be glad to see it end. Usually I like January’s clean slate, resetting of diet and goals for the year.

A quite walk through the snow is good way to refocus. I love my walks! I will be happy once some of our snow melts so I can get back to walking. Have a great week!

It’s so nice to hear someone praising these wintery cold months. I don’t even live on the East Coast anymore and I’m tired of hearing all of their complaints. They should all be able to enjoyed their “forced” days of relaxation!

So awesome of your husband to let you sleep in and have a little alone time. Us moms need that sometimes. We didn’t have the big storm here, but we have plenty of snow too. I love that vest!

Love this post (and your chic black outfit). January can be a bit of a bummer for me – the holidays are over and real life sets in again. But it starts with lots of possibilities, and can make for such a wonderful month if you take in the moments (and get some me time, of course). Me time is something that doesn’t come natural to me. It makes me feel guilty, which is absolutely stupid. So I’m working against that at this point in time.

Thank you Jenn! I know that feeling as well, but a few years ago I made a choice to start seeing January and February as positives. It really has helped my perspective! And you should definitely take some me time… I know it’s hard, but you deserve it!

It snowed in Alabama on Friday for the first time since we moved here. This was actually the first time in my entire life that I experienced snow where I call home. And it was amazing. As soon as the rain turned to little slow moving flakes, I started jumping up and down, yelling ‘it’s snowing! it’s snowing!”. I spent practically the next three hours staring at the window, happy as a clam. That evening, I put on my boots and all my layers, and took my dogs for a nice long walk through our apartment complex which had now become a winter wonderland. It was freezing, but everything was so beautiful, and I just kept thinking about how happy I was to be in that moment. In that moment, I was feeling very blessed to be experiencing January.

I feel the same way about January. The holidays burn me out. I need a gray, cold month. For me, it’s a perfect time to stay in with the kids and bake, color, drink tea, and watch lots of movies. But we have somehow fallen for the lie that we’re supposed to PRODUCE every day, every season. It wasn’t that way long ago, and it’s certainly not beneficial now. The weather serves to remind us that we should all have “snow days”!
