3 Ways to Wear an Oversized Blazer for Fall

Hello my friends and happy Friday! I hope you’re wrapping up a good week, and I hope you have fun weekend plans. Generally our weekends are pretty slow but we actually have quite a bit planned this weekend, which is an indication that summer is coming to a close and school is starting up again. But even though our weekend is packed, it’s filled with things that we’re all looking forward to so I’m actually really excited about the things to come.

Speaking of things to come, fall fashion is right on the horizon, and with it comes the temptation to completely revamp our existing wardrobes. And trust me I’ve been there done that, but this year I’m trying to be a little bit more conscientious in the way that I approach the seasonal shift with my wardrobe. My goal is to work with a lot of what I already have, and choose pieces to add to my closet in a more mindful way. I’m looking for pieces that will have maximum impact, that will fulfill multiple roles if you will. And one of those pieces that I believe will do just that is the oversized blazer. It’s not a piece I really had before, but it’s something that I think is really going to make a difference in my closet… Especially because I do have a lot of basics, and that’s really what I’m drawn to. Pieces like an oversized blazer can really turn basics into all kinds of different outfits, depending on how you style it. So today, I thought I would show you three ways I plan to wear my oversized blazer for fall… and I’ll be honest with you, styling this post got me really excited to have this blazer added into my rotation. So without further ado:

This outfit, to me, is the perfect way to wear an oversized blazer, and it’s funny because it flies in the face of all the advice that tells you to balance out your proportions. I just think sometimes it really works to wear everything oversized… but the key is to make sure everything is still tailored to fit you really well. So in other words, oversized yes, but not sloppy oversized. Does that make sense? Intentionally oversized. It just gives you the appearance of laid-back and cool. And that’s a look I’m reaching for more and more.

Now, this look definitely is more about balancing proportions, but in a more current way. It utilizes trendier silhouettes like the baggier jeans, but you get the balance with the girly mules and the traditional cashmere sweater. I really love outfits like this that pull in a mix of traditional silhouettes, but in more current cuts… and I always love pairing a super girly pair of shoes with more masculine fits on top.

And finally, one of my favorite ways to update my wardrobe with an oversized blazer is to throw it on over a little black dress for any type of event that I might have. It’s such an easy way to make your LBD feel fresh without having to buy a new dress for a special occasion. I love keeping things super classic with my cap toe flats and letting the blazer really shine in this outfit. It’s super simple, but it packs a punch.

And that’s just the top of the iceberg my friends, I can think of so many other ways to style my oversized blazer. Have you added one into your wardrobe? Has it become a closet staple for you as well? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

Karin

Would love to know the source of the blazer! The link is broken, however.
