Winter 10×10 Day Three: An Unsuccessful Styling Attempt

Winter 10x10 Day Three Winter 10x10 Day Three

Welcome to my winter 10×10 day three outfit!

Confession time: I really don’t like how this outfit turned out.

I had an idea for this in my head and when I executed it? Bleh.

Here’s why:

The t-shirt underneath the flannel throws the proportions off and the peek of white right above the belt draws your attention like a beacon, which is not where I want attention to be drawn.

Also, the mid rise on these jeans paired with the tie waist just make my waistline appear really boxy… i.e. it’s not the most flattering shape on me.

Lesson learned! I love the tie waist styling trick, but I think it works best with a higher waist and a pant cut that has more room in the leg (like a straight leg or wide leg style).

But that’s why this challenge is so good! It helps you figure out what does and does not work when it comes to styling your clothing. So in a way, this unsuccessful styling attempt was actually a win! Niiiiiice.

Speaking of unsuccessful, we’re attempting to wean our girls off of the bottle and it is not going well. Kit was so easy! We literally one day took away her bottles and she had zero issues with it. Rosie and Ella on the other hand… Ella acts as if the sippy cup is made of hot metal and Rosie swats the bottle out of my hands so hard that it often flies three feet away from us. Sigh. It’s true when they say that every child is different!

Any tips for a successful transition? Or if you’re not into sippy cup tip sharing, tell me how you would have styled this outfit… maybe I can learn from you!

They make sippy cups with a rubber tip that is similar to a bottle, to help transition kids. Sorry I can’t remember a specific brand but I remember they worked well with my son 7 years ago.

I used these as well – the brand was Nuby.

Thanks! We actually just found some at Aldi (of all places!) and it’s going well.

We started with straws and then switched to sippy cups. It was very much a drink it or you get nothing method. You could also just do water in the bottle so they don’t dehydrate, but their other preferred liquid in the sippy. It might motivate them and then you can switch to the sippy cup completely. But our fav sippy cup by far is the snug lid from Boon paired with a small metal cup. Even when they throw it across the room, it doesn’t spatter all over the place.

We started with a straw with Kit as well and had no problems, but the girls are refusing to drink from a straw. I have been doing water in a bottle for them like you suggested because they weren’t drinking anything at all, but now they’re slowly drinking more and more milk from their sippy cups. Kit was so easy haha!

I usually wear flannels open and loose with the arms cuffed and pushed up like yours.a higher waist definitely would help if you wanted to tie it. On a warmer day you could also have the flannel tied around your waist. One style I liked was having the flannel buttoned up about 3/4 of the way, doing a half tuck, pushed up arms, and a scarf looslely wrapped around the neck. This can be a fun way to mix prints.

I do love those ideas! This is the only flannel I have, but it’s a little too oversized to be really versatile.
