A Week of Real Outfits: Featuring the Linen Button Down

I’m surprised I have a week of outfits for you guys!

We’ve had a bunch of sickness in our house lately… I swear the minute the temps drop we’re immediately down for the count.

I’ve heard good things about Elderberry supplements… anyone tried it?

But yes. Sickness.

Thankfully we’re on the mend, and it was mostly over the weekend when David was home. It could always be worse right?

So I was actually able to wear real clothing for most of the day… even if I did change into leggings by 4 pm.

No shame right?

Well let’s jump in then!

A Week of Real Outfits: Featuring the Linen Button Down A Week of Real Outfits: Featuring the Linen Button Down

:: Outfit formula: casual, structured basics with simple slip ons

:: Where I wore it: preschool drop off/physical therapy appointments (my life is oh so glamerous)

:: Why I put it together: I wanted something super comfy, but I also wanted to look put together since I had appointments. I like a linen button down for busy days because even if it gets a bit wrinkly it doesn’t really matter. I love a good pair of slip ons as well for easy comfort. I also like the monochromeness of this outfit… I’ve been really into earth toned neutrals lately and that’s exactly what this is! This choker necklace was a gift from my friend Mandy. It’s made by artisans in Ethiopia and is made from upcycled metal and artillery that farmers find in the fields from previous wars. Many of the artisans in Ethiopia are people affected by HIV and their artisan work allows them to succeed  & have access to much needed medicine. It’s part of the Noonday collection, which is a socially responsible business that uses fashion to create meaningful opportunities around the world. They design and sell an exclusive collection of accessories made by Artisans around the globe. You can find more info here.

:: Outfit formula: chunky sweater and wide leg pants

:: Where I wore it: library story time

:: Why I put it together: It was pretty chilly this day so I was mostly just going for comfort ha! I thrifted this sweater this past summer and I have been waiting for an opportunity to wear it! I love pairing this slouchy sweater with structured pants so I don’t look sloppy. These pants, while structured, are actually super comfy and the clogs are so easy! My favorite types of clothes. 🙂

:: Outfit formula: dressed up basics with jeans

:: Where I wore it: the play place

:: Why I put it together: Have you figured out yet that I like easy, comfy pieces that look like they’re not? Ha! That’s basically what this outfit is. Everything is easy and comfy, but the structure of each piece makes me feel pulled together. These shoes especially… I’ve been a pretty strong sneaker fanatic for awhile now, but these are actually more comfortable than my converse and they look a lot more elevated.

:: Outfit formula: girly top and vintage jeans

:: Where I wore it: shopping for groceries and later dinner out

:: Why I put it together: I don’t pull this top out very often (mostly because I’m terrified of ruining it), but I was feeling a bit more romantic. This outfit literally makes me feel like I’ve jumped right out of the pages of Austenland… swoon! It was a bit dressy for the day part of my day to be honest, but I didn’t have time to change so I went with it. Thankfully the shoes (same as yesterday, but in white) are comfy enough for grocery shopping, and the jeans make the outfit much more casual. I love a more romantic blouse paired with a good pair of vintage jeans… there’s just something about that juxtaposition that makes me happy.

:: Outfit formula: comfy pieces that look like more than they are.

:: Where I wore it: more physical therapy appointments and play place

:: Why I put it together: I’ve been wanting to grow in confidence to wear more of my me made pieces in real life. A lot of heart and soul went into these pieces, but they aren’t perfect so I feel a bit self conscious wearing them in real life. But I’m getting over that need for perfect and wearing them proudly! This kimono really just makes me so happy. The pattern wasn’t that hard, and I can’t wait to give it another try with a different fabric! I love the bulk on top paired with a more tapered trouser as well… again with the pleasing juxtapositions!

So there you have it! I hope you guys had a good weekend. I’ll be visiting my parents this week so I’m excited for a change of scenery.

What are you guys up to?

Until next time,

Karin

I love all your looks, especially the last! I too struggle with getting dressed for simple errands with my daughter. My wardrobe was full of office wear and now I’m working from home four days a week so I don’t wear much of it anymore. I too am gravitating towards the comfy pieces that don’t look as comfy as they are!

What type of fabric did you use for the jacket you made? I have that pattern but haven’t put it to use yet.

Thanks Meagan! I used a vintage linen and it’s actually not that nice to be honest ha! I have plans to make another one with a nicer fabric, but I wanted to practice first before I invested.

I love the lacy top. I’ve always wanted to be able to pull off the romantic look, but it just isn’t me. I’m also envious of your sewing skills. My daughter gave me her old machine, but it sits in the attic. I need a sewing friend close by to teach me! Also, I have made elderberry tincture before and it works well for sickness when combined with echinacea.

Thanks Rebecca! You should definitely pull out your sewing machine! YouTube is so helpful for basic tutorials.

I love the WLC with the sweater! These are some lovely looks and I’ve also been enjoying easy pieces that add structure but are still comfortable for on-the-go momming (and some office work, too). I never really needed dedicated lounge wear before my kids, but I really appreciate it now. I am more comfortable changing from office attire before switching into “mom time” for two reasons: (1) it protects my nice clothing from stains and roughhousing wear and (2) it signifies a switch from one role to the other that I find psychologically satisfying!

Still hot in St. Louis, but change is coming Wednesday. My 3yo twins love to help me get dressed and they keep picking sweaters. SOON, kiddos, I keep saying. 🙂

Thanks! I totally get that psychological switch. I do the same thing with my yoga in the morning. Even though I don’t sweat, I still change into workout gear because it gets me in the mood to do it. 🙂

I love the Kimono! I keep seeing it and want to make it but I’m not sure what kind of fabric! Is this a sweatshirt type material?

It’s actually a vintage linen! I’ve seen it with both wool and canvas, and I think both of those would do really well with the pattern.
