Well folks, another capsule has come and gone.
It’s weird for me to think that I’ve only been doing this for half a year because I feel like I’ve been doing it for years.
So much so, that I felt like an expert going into my fall capsule. ย I know. The minute you start feeling like an expert is the moment you realize how much you still have to learn.
There were things about my fall capsule that I felt like I was doing SO right, when in actuality I was doing them SO wrong.
So. With that being said, here are the lessons I learned while doing my fallย capsule:
1.
Just because someone (or the internet) tells you that you should have something included in your wardrobe doesn’t mean that you should.
What do I mean by that?
One word: color.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I love color as much as the next person.
But when it comes to my wardrobe? I really just don’t… unless it’s bright red.
I’ve always felt kind of bad about that and I often feel a subtle pressure to include color in my wardrobe.
In my fallย capsule, I included colors and outfits that were only for the sake of having some extra color in my wardrobe.
I shouldn’t have.
I barely wore them and all they did was take up precious space in my limited wardrobe.
Not cool.
So in this next capsule I’m letting go of those expectations and doing things MY way.
No apologies.
2.
Just because I like a color or type of clothing, DOESN’T mean I should wear it.
I’m always so drawn to beige and cream, but, *sigh* it’s not the most flattering on me.
Same thing with any dress shape beside sheath. I just don’t love the way I look in them.
I’m finally letting go of the things that I like, but don’t like on me.
3.
I like tops that hide my hips a bit.
I was seriously lacking in longer tops in this past capsule and so I wore the same tops over and over.
I need to make sure I’m choosing clothing items that work for my body type instead of choosing things just because they are trendy.
4.
Finally, but most importantly: our wardrobes really are just a part of who we are.
They don’t define us, they don’t make us valuable, and most of all they don’t complete us.
They will never be the solution to our insecurities, our pain, or our inadequacies.
Until we can figure that out, we’re just like a bunch of hamsters spinning endlessly on our wheel of consumerism.
And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be a hamster.
Thanks for taking this journey with me! I’m so very excited to share my winter capsule with you on Friday. I think I’m finally figuring out how to create a wardrobe that really works for me and that’s exciting!
Until next time,
