Winter Capsule Outfit No. 3: The Best Basics

Outfit Details

I sized down in the jeans – the first pair I got stretched out quite a bit. The Girlfriend coat is sold out in this color – I linked to the same in a different color and some similar options in black. My hat was gifted from Myssifarmi as a part of a campaign I did with them last year.

Gabe’s Outfit details:

sherpa coat | corduroy pants | his hat was gifted from Myssifarmi as a part of the same campaign | his boots were from Baby Gap earlier this season

Gabe and I went on a little outing today to get his hair cut while his sister’s were at school. Don’t let the above smiles fool you, he was not a happy camper about getting his hair cut. The first time he got his hair cut he kind of just sat there frozen with a nervous look on his face…

this time around he screamed the whole way through. He’s definitely coming into his own with his thoughts and opinions! But not to worry. He was treated to a smoothie afterwards, and all tears and fears were forgotten.

It’s still unbelievably cold here.

So I wasn’t choosing today’s outfit based on anything other than wanting to be warm and cozy. This maxi coat always does the trick, and paired with full length jeans there were no opportunities for blustery winds to get the best of me. I do find when I wear a big puffer coat like this and I know I’m going to be in and out of heavily heated buildings a light base layer is all I really want.

This ribbed long sleeve tee from Madewell does the job very well.

It’s very soft and silky and stays put under bulkier layers, but the ribbed details and the rich black material looks great as a stand alone.

I always feel a bit sorry for basics because they tend to get overlooked, but having a good rotation of basics is a game changer when it comes to easy dressing.

I have 2 white short sleeve tees, 2 long sleeve white tees, 1 oatmeal colored long sleeve tee, and this black long sleeve tee that I rotate between all of the time.

The oatmeal long sleeve tee is many years old from Kotn and no longer available, but I’ll link to the others…

The best basics

The first long sleeve white tee is a very oversized, relaxed fit and I love it for that laid back vibe. It’s currently sold out, but I hope they bring it back!

The second long sleeve white tee is more of a fitted tee and I love it under cardigans and sweaters. Again, this is mostly sold out, but hopefully they bring it back!

The first short sleeve tee is the perfect white tee in my opinion. It has a great in between sleeve length, and it’s a bit boxy, but still fitted.

The second tee is another great option and I like that it’s still kind of white, but it has a heathered look to it.

Between these 6 basics I’m pretty much covered!

Anyway, these days it’s all about layers but I’m looking forward to a day when I can enjoy these base layers as stand alone pieces.

Do you have a basic you swear by? Let me know what it is in the comments!
