Spring 2018 Outfit 11: Make Your Clothes Work for You

Spring 2018 Outfit 11: Make Your Clothes Work for You Spring 2018 Outfit 11: Make Your Clothes Work for You

Another day, another post where I’m going to start with: I’m going to be honest with you guys.

But, well, you’re basically seeing my capsule wardrobe in process so I might as well be honest with you guys about what I’m processing.

Let’s talk about this dress.

I love the black and white stripes… they’re unique amongst the sea of striped patterns. I love how wide they are and how saturated the black is.

BUT, I’m unsure if I like it in dress form.

Now, full disclosure: it could just be that I’m unsure of it because I’m a little pasty right now.

But it’s one of those dresses that is semi sheer so I have to wear a slip underneath and that feels a bit fussy for my lifestyle.

SO. Because I love the stripe so much, I think I’m going to keep it and see if I can rework it into a tee. Anyone else who sews super intimidated by sewing stretchy material though?? No? Only me?

But I might also keep it as a dress. Like with yesterday’s post, I plan to sit on it a bit. I’m going to wait for the weather to warm up and see if I reach for it.

On one hand, I think I did a really good job of nailing down my style with this capsule.

BUT I also think because I added so many pieces at one time (which was somewhat necessary because most of my old closet doesn’t fit me anymore), there were definitely some fringe pieces that I could have gone without.

Progress though people! In the past I would have beaten myself up about it, and felt like I couldn’t admit to you guys that I made a mistake.

But no more! New Karin is fully willing to admit her mistakes and share them with you.

Hopefully in my being real about not being perfect (although I think that’s probably pretty obvious), it will give you the courage to make mistakes.

I used to dread mistakes, but I’m coming to believe that life is basically just a series of “mistakes” that you correct overtime and grow from.

They are definitely not something we should seek out, but they aren’t something we should bury our head in the sand over either.

Sincerely,

Someone who used to only play it safe so that they would never make mistakes, but then would make mistakes anyway.

Yes to this! I have a similar dress from Everlane that I’ve been struggling to make work for me (the fit is just off). I recently decided I should have it made into a shirt and then at least I can enjoy it rather than feeling like a frump when I wear it.
    Loving your red accessories!
