What I Actually Wore: Daily Outfits for the Week of 4/23/18

Oh hey there!

This has been the best week you guys! It’s been our first warm week of the year so far, and oh! was it needed.

We’ve been outside every moment that we can, and I even went on a few runs with the girls!

It’s amazing how much the weather can affect our moods isn’t it?

I never thought I was overly affected by it, but this winter has proved me wrong. March was really hard for me, and the “control freak” inside of me struggled with the fact that there was nothing I could do to rush warmer weather.

I think I was so anxious for it to warm up because last summer was such a season of survival for us. We didn’t really get to enjoy the warmer weather because Ella and Rosie were either sleeping or eating, or I was pumping. And sometimes I struggle with feeling like Kit missed out on a whole season of her life.

That paired with feeling anxious for a “do over”, just put me in a funk.

So suffice it to say, this weather has me in a much better mood.

I think my outfits this week reflect my positive mood shift… I had more fun getting dressed!

And on that note: here are my daily outfits for the week of 4/23/18:

Friday:

What I Actually Wore- Outfits for the Week of 4-23-18-1

Top | Denim | Clogs | Earrings

I wore this outfit for a ton of errand running. David works from home on Fridays so while the girls nap, I get to go out and get things done. Yay! These clogs remain a favorite of mine. They are so, so comfortable but look special. Sometimes I wish I would have gone with a more neutral color, but I do really love the red color.

Top: Made by Me! From thrifted fabric | Denim | Mules | Necklace: Thrifted. Similar

So I made this top! It’s not perfect, and I think I will end up cutting it so it hits me at the hips instead, but I really love it! I self drafted it, and used this material I found at a thrift store and in a weird, weird way it feels like my baby. Also, I apologize for the peace sign. Sometimes taking photos of your outfits feels just a bit narcissistic and weird, and I was having a hard time taking myself seriously.

Tuesday:

Top | Denim | Flats | Scarf: Thrifted. Similar

I absolutely love this outfit. There’s something so chic about a basic white blouse and jeans, and these shoes really elevate the basicness of it. Oh, and go ahead and ignore the fit bit sticking out of my pocket… forgot to take it off before taking this photo. 😉

And if you missed it, here is a review of these Day Glove Shoes from Everlane

Top (limited sizes available). Similar ethical option| Vintage Jeans: Similar | Shoes

Apparently I was having a hard time taking myself seriously this week! In all seriousness though, sometimes I do feel like this whole blogging about clothing is a bit… shallow? Self absorbed? I’m not sure, but I do know that I enjoy it so… I don’t know. These are just mainly nap time musings of a stay at home mom so I’m not really sure where I was going with it. Anyway, I wore this to go grocery shopping with the girls. Oh man you guys, the Grandmas were out in droves at Aldi on Wednesday. I was approached by about seven different ladies, and hugged twice (and I am a personal space kind of person). I try to be gracious about their attention, especially because I know they mean well and they truly just enjoy the site of a young mom with three young ones, but I was eager to get to the car by the time we were done shopping. I’m someone that likes to melt into the background when I’m “in the wild”, and having twins has forced me to get over that desire to blend in.

Also: Finally cleaned my mirror… your welcome.

Thursday:

What I Actually Wore- Outfits for the Week of 4-23-18-1

Top: Ali Golden  | Vintage Jeans: Similar | Shoes | Earrings: Claus c/o (her signet rings are gorgeous as well!)

And finally Thursday! Today was such a beautiful day you guys. The sun was out, it was the perfect temperature… love! We went to the zoo and had a picnic. I almost changed out of this outfit about 10 times (I’m not exaggerating), because it’s not what most other Minnesota moms would be wearing for a day at the zoo (again with the not wanting to stick out), but I finally decided to suck it up and get out of my comfort zone. Because ultimately I really love the way this looks, it’s super comfortable, and I knew I shouldn’t care so much what other people think of me. I’m glad I stuck with it.

Also, side note on this tunic: I’ve had it for a couple of years now, but it got some weird yellow stains on it while it was in storage (even though I had it in a garment bag). I tried to replace it with a thrifted Madewell tunic dress, but I really missed this one so I got to researching (which is what I should have done in the first place), and found this product. It completely removed the stains! So glad to have it back in the rotation again.

One final side note, before I sign out for the weekend:

ABLE is having a 15% off sale through the 29th. If you’ve been eyeing anything, now is a good time to get it!

Okay then! Have a great weekend you guys! I’m excited to enjoy more of this warm weather. I hope you’ll all find to get outside as well!

Until next time,

Congrats on your me-made top! I love the color. And that zoo outfit is a stunner! I’m glad you didn’t change. As a fellow introvert I understand the desire to blend in the background but sometimes mama’s just gotta shine! Xoxo

Wow, your top turned out great! I’ve only tried my hand at a few, and sewing stresses me out a bit (all of that time and money sunk in to it), but I hope to get better. Do you have any tutorials or resources you recommend? I’m not one for patterns, but respond better to general tips.

I would say just start with thrift store fabric… low cost and not a huge loss if you mess it up. I just search on YouTube for whatever I’m wanting to make. There are SO many videos!

Love the top you made and all your poses! I feel you on feeling self-conscious, but you are really helping those of us that want some guidance in this whole daily outfit thing. And I have my eyes on those Madewell Mules and the Everlane shoes…they somehow elevate the looks!

I really appreciate your goofy pictures. I’m just starting out with the whole taking pictures of myself thing and it is so awkward most of the time. I also get those thoughts where I think blogging about clothes must be shallow, but screw that.
