I’m hardcore feeling that blogger pose here you guys ?
It’s funny that the day that I write this blog post, it’s supposed to be in the mid 80’s… so this outfit isn’t super weather appropriate ha!
This spring capsule has been a challenge you guys! On paper (or in daily photos) it looks great, but the weather has just not cooperated at all.
There really hasn’t been an in between spring phase. We literally went from a massive snowstorm to sunny and warm in a matter of days.
More and more I’m feeling that these seasonal capsule wardrobes are just no longer for me.
And I think this spring has really solidified that feeling for me…
because I’ve basically worn fall clothing and summer clothing so far this season, and very little “spring” clothing.
I think when you live in a place like Minnesota it really does make more sense to do a year long capsule wardrobe simply because the weather can swing to such extremes.
I think that this might be the last seasonal capsule that I share with you guys…
I know that the whole premise of my blog has been these seasonal capsule wardrobes, but I have some thoughts and plans about how we move forward.
What about you guys? Have you been struggling this spring? Has the weather been just as crazy where you are?

Until next time,
I’ve felt myself straddling seasons, too, but I’m already so easy on myself with my “capsule” that it hasn’t posed much of a problem. I like doing two capsules just for the strategy of it but then, in reality, wearing what I need to wear depending on the weather.
I think that’s basically what I’ll end up doing. Obviously with blogging about capsule wardrobes it gets a bit trickier… but I guess that’s no longer a worry!
In Vermont we had winter (including a big ice storm) into the second or third week of April when summer arrived. We didn’t really do spring, we just did cold and snowing right to hot and rainy. It has made getting dressed a bit more challenging, but winter was so long that I’m happy for any change in weather.
That’s exactly how it’s been here, and now it’s June and it’s been chilly and rainy. So unpredictable haha!
I’ve had the same struggle. I want to move towards a year long capsule but feel a little lost about where to start!
It’s definitely a little overwhelming at first thought… I think for me it really makes sense right now because over the last three years I’ve pared down my wardrobe so much that I’m basically left with a full year capsule… I just need to change my mindset a bit.
I live in Minneapolis too Karin – and have done capsule wardrobing for a few years. I agree that this year was tough given our weather, but one thing I’ve started to do is allow my seasonal capsules to come when the weather calls for it – NOT when the calendar says I should switch. So this year, my winter capsule lasted longer – because the cold weather persisted (I did start to get sick of items, but we were ALL sick of the weather by then, so it was probably just a reflection of that!) But as the days started to last longer, I did switch out a couple of my darkest colored items for some lighter colored spring items. I finally switched to spring now, but pushed a couple summery tops in as well, given the temps. Personally, I like to switch colors with the seasons, (I have a LOT of color in my wardrobe – wines in fall, pinks and whites in spring etc). So seasonal wardrobes still work really well for me.
That totally makes sense Andrea! I think my hold up has been that, because I blog about capsule wardrobes, I have readers who want to see spring styles earlier than Minnesota weather cooperates with. 🙂
I live in Ohio and have similar issues with the weather–many years we don’t really have spring, just 35 degrees one day and 80 the next. I recently started keeping a version of an all-season wardrobe in my closet, with only the most extreme hot- and cold-weather clothing swapped out. So right now I have all my spring & fall stuff and my summer stuff in the closet, and my winter sweaters in storage. Come November or so, I’ll put away the shorts and summer dresses, and get out the thick sweaters. But the jeans, basic shirts, and thin light sweaters will stay year-round.
I love that approach Kim!
