Figure Out Your Uniform

Today I’m back with the third installment of my perfect capsule wardrobe series and we’re talking uniforms!

I think it’s safe to say that if you’ve been following me on Instagram for any length of time, or if you’ve seen any of my outfit roundupsthen you know that I definitely have one:

T-Shirt, Denim, Converse.

Right?

When it comes to figuring out your personal style and creating a capsule wardrobe that works for you, figuring out your uniform is a pretty important step.

I don’t know about you, but when I first heard this term, my thoughts immediately went to Mark Zuckerberg.

But I’m not advocating anything that extreme (although if that works for you, then more power to you!).

Instead, I like to think of it as more of a helpful guideline for building my capsules.

In other words, it’s my way of keeping myself in check so that I only include items I’ll actually wear.

But here’s the catch: it’s not that easy to figure out what your uniform is.

It took me four capsules to figure it out.

Four capsules to formulate these questions and then find answers to them:

  • What is my lifestyle?
  • What do I reach for most in my closet?
  • What do I feel most confident in?

Those may seem like super simple questions, but they can be difficult to answer.

I don’t know about you, but I tend to think of myself as living in this glamorous alternate reality.

But once I got real with myself and was able to answer those questions honestly, I came up with my uniform and you know what?

This spring capsule, which includes various forms of my uniform, has felt the most “right” of any of my previous capsules.

What about you? Do you know what your uniform is? Let me know in the comments below!

Figuring out my uniform was a real game changer!
As well as getting over the thought that I should be wearing a completely different outfit every day…

Yes!I had to be real with myself about the type of clothing I really needed for my capsule. Like you, I had this idea for my capsule that was a lot more glamorous than the life I was actually living. Long story short, now that I have my true uniform, when it comes time to replacing the most worned items of my capsule, I know which pieces to splurge on and which to save. My uniform is: blazer/cardigan/jacket+t-shirt+denim+converse/loafers

I’m very into ‘trendy’ fashion and not afraid to wear some out-there stuff but when it comes to my casual dress my uniform is definitely jeans and a striped tee/sweater. Stripes will NEVER leave my life lol

It’s always best to be yourself. Not all trends suit everyone and sometimes the ones that do need a bit of an adjustment and that’s ok. Good for you that you found your style.

This morning I was thinking about how I typically wear varying versions of the same thing most days, and now I have a word for that! My uniform type is layers: a tank, cardi, jeans/jean shorts, and flats.

My uniform is definitely maxi skirts, comfy shirts and cardigans. #teacherprobs!! I love your outfit choice, too! Super cute.

Unfortunately I have become a yoga clothes 24/7 girl. I really need to step it up!

My uniform varies! I love a good throw-on dress and some leggings. A basic top and some colored pants is another staple outfit. But to be real, I usually fall back on my typical t-shirt, cardigan or flannel, and jeans. Paring down my wardrobe has definitely been making it easier to have just a few combos that I reach for.

I am so loyal to my uniform! I change it a little bit with the top, but most of the time it involves denim + chucks 🙂 Love your look!

I had this same exact epiphany this week: my uniform. I’m a mom of two little ones, work part-time where I can dress casual. I don’t have time to put together “outfits” for work anymore. (Plus the baby naps in the same room where my closet is so I can’t really spend time picking through it!) T-shirt and jeans and flats. With a cardigan in the winter. I’m just going to get a bunch more T-shirts in different colors and call it good!
