Can I tell you guys about a dream that I have?
I have a dream to be a world class knitter… ha!
I have attempted knitting before and it went okay at best.
I find that my problem is that I start a project and then just never seem to end up finishing it.
But, I decided that this year I’m going to set myself a goal that seems impossible and then I’m going to do my absolute best to get it done!
I want to knit a sweater… I know! Seems impossible for someone that’s only ever done basic scarves, but I’m determined!
If and when I actually get started with the project I’ll let you know. But do you guys have any tips for me?
Yarn you love? Patterns you use? Advice from making your own?
Let me know in the comments!
It’s really too bad that we don’t all live super close to each other because wouldn’t it be fun to have a big knitting get together?
ALSO, just a quick note that I will be taking the rest of the week off from blogging! I still have three outfits left to share with you, but I think I’m going to scrap ’em. This past weekend David took all three girls to stay with his parents while I put in close to 40 hours shooting photos for my spring outfits and editing them. After that intensity, I need a break ha! I’ll be back on Friday with my winter wrap up post and then on Monday I’ll be revealing my spring capsule!
See you in a few days…

Until next time,
I admire your determination! I have done a few sweaters though have been way too busy to knit as of late! I prefer merino wool (madeline tosh and malabrigo are my favs) but I used a cheaper wool acrylic blend my first time as I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. A lady I’m friends with teaches lessons out of her home. I’d definitely recommend her classes and online tutorials. Also, a LYS (local yarn shop) will likely have classes and knowledgeable people that could help you pick a pattern. There are tons of patternd on ravelry.com too. A top down vs seamed style is probably going to be less daunting for your first go, but a seamed sweater will last longer and fit better IMO. I’d probably recommend something less fitted like an open cardi or wrap or poncho for your first as getting your gauge (size ) perfect is tricky! If you are interested in more specifics email me and I can give you my ravelry user name (my account has pictures of stuff I’ve done) or info on the knitting teacher I have taken lessons from. Good luck!
Thanks for such good tips! A few people have mentioned doing a cardigan first so I think that’s what I’ll do! I’m excited!
A knitting party would be so fun, wouldn’t it?! I second Jackie suggestion that a cardigan would be an easy place to start, since sizing is less of an issue. Starting with a very chunky yarn also helps, since it knits up so much more quickly, it really helps keep motivation up.
You’ve got this Karin! Can’t wait to see how your first project turns out 🙂
It really would be! I LOVE how yours turned out! You’ve inspired me so much!
Knitting is something I would LOVE to get into….in theory. I tried knitting a very simple hat for my baby niece as my first project, and my sister ended up finishing it for me because I got so frustrated. I had always assumed it was a passive or mindless activity, and was really surprised with how engaged you have to be to not mess up. It’s a lot of counting!
That’s my problem as well! In fact, my mother in law is notorious for visiting and finishing all of my left undone projects haha! But I feel a shift in my determination so I’m going to run with it! 🙂
Knitting a scarf was something complicated to me. But then out of the blue, when on bedrest with my 1st, I started knitting all the things for her. Based on patterns I bought|books, and I remember I’ve watched tons of youtube videos how to do something. That was the most helpful.
My mother is a huge knitter, but lives a couple of countries away, so no help.
That’s the perfect time to get into knitting! So much more productive than binge watching a TV show! My mom is also a knitter, but terrible at teaching it (sorry mom!). I know how to do a basic stitch, but I’ll have to look into some YouTube videos to move beyond the basics!
