Today I thought I would give you a few of my capsule shopping tips.
Before I begin, I have to fess up and say I borrowed this method from Anna of the Anna Edit (love her so much). If you are looking for good capsule content in written and video form I highly suggest following her.
Anywho…
I keep a running list in my phone that I call my wish list.
As I wear my capsules I jot down pieces that I think “oh I wish I would have included one of those in this capsule” that way when the next year comes around I have a “real time” reminder of what I felt I was missing.
Now sometimes, I end up deleting items off of the wishlist after really thinking it over, but this list is super helpful in keeping me focused on what pieces will actually improve my wardrobe vs. pieces that are just fluffy fillers and spur of the moment purchases.
So for this winter capsule, I knew I needed knitwear (it was on my list!) and I also knew I wanted a few long sleeve, casual tops (a.k.a. not blouses). I actually only had one or two of them in my wardrobe and they were mostly lightweight spring/early summer options.
I try to be as specific as possible on this wishlist so I had written down: “turtleneck” (which I fulfilled in my fall capsule) and “striped tees… preferably in a black and white and red and white print.
And voila! I was able to check both of those off the checklist with an Everlane order.
I’ve also found this method to be really helpful for thrifting purposes because every now and then I’ll poke around on eBay, Poshmark, or my local thrift stores and see if any of my wish list items are available secondhand.
I’m a list person so having this list to work off of has really helped me to stay focused on my goals.
What about you guys? Do you keep a list? Do you have any capsule shopping tips you’d like to share?
Also, before you go: check out this post by my friend Cat on the lack of diversity in ethical fashion. It’s a good, make you think read!

Until next time,
I love the idea of keeping a list of items you are looking for. I started doing this a while ago and it really helped me stay away from impulse purchases.
It’s funny how such a simple step really does help!
I am the same way! I love lists and I keep a running wish list on my phone as well.
I’m so thankful for the notes app haha!
