Happy Friday my friends. I’ve been very quiet on here and on socials lately because I have been feeling very under the weather. I have the lingering cold that it seems everyone is getting this fall and my migraines hav been especially bad this month – so I’ve been taking it easy and accepting that it’s okay that I can’t do it all… which 30 year old Karin would have scoffed at, but almost 40 year old Karin sits with quite happily. It’s amazing what a decade of burnout will do for your ability to create boundaries and be confident in sticking to them. 🙃 Anyway…
The kids recently had fall break and we visited my in laws in Wisconsin. It was a very nice little break from reality and it, of course, included lots of time spent outdoors exploring with cousins. I packed along some new (and kindly gifted) sweaters from J. Crew I’ve been wanting to try out so I thought I’d share with you guys how I styled these sweaters in real time, with minimal extraneous accessories so you could get an idea how the idea of “uniform” dressing might work in your own wardrobe. In this instance, the wardrobe being a sweater, jeans, and sneakers/flats. It’s a very easy uniform to pull off and I tend to vacillate between this uniform and a sweater, jeans, boots uniform all throughout fall and winter. It’s just easy and it works every single time. So here’s how it worked packing for a long weekend trip:

I’m not as into long cardigans as I used to be, but I do like to have one or two still in my wardrobe because they are way to throw on when it’s not super cold out and you want something a little more casual than a jacket, but something a bit more styled than a lightweight puffer coat. This one is a longer version of their iconic sweater blazers and I love that it gives the material a bit more weight and shape to it than a typical long cardigan. I always go up a size (a medium for me) in my sweaters because I love the relaxed look so mine has a very generous fit to it, but if you want this to look a bit more tailored and fitted just go with your typical size or even size down.

Red is THE color of the season, and I’m not mad about it at all as it’s always been one of my favorite colors to wear. There is just something so bright and cheery about cherry red that puts me in a good mood instantly. This ribbed cashmere version is amazing! You guys know I love J. Crew Cashmere and this version is no exception. It’s just as soft as the classic version I love and the ribbed fabric is such a beautiful textured option. I love how this one looks sized up as well… it lends a really casual, I’m not trying vibe to your outfit that’s really in at the moment.
Outfit Details:
Everyone needs a classic turtleneck sweater in their wardrobe, and I would argue that everyone needs a classic navy. Navy is so versatile because it has the same effect as a black, but it can work with both black and brown accessories so it goes even further Jen your closet. And a turtleneck is just such an elegant sweater style to wear… I love the way it looks swept up with your hair. It’s just such an effortless way to look classic and chic in cooler weather while also staying legitimately warm. I really like this version from J. Crew because it’s made of cotton so for those who can’t do wool at all this would be a great option!
Outfit Details:
I love a good neutral, cream sweater but at this point they tend to all run together and look the same. This one avoids that fate, however, by having the most beautiful texture. It has a boucle type texture without totally committing to being boucle so it’s not overly trendy. It’s also super soft doesn’t feel scratchy like some sweaters do that have texture. I like the exaggerated neckline as well, which gives it just a bit more visual interest taking it to another level beyond just another crewneck cream sweater. This kind of sweater is a great way to mix up a wardrobe full of staples and neutrals without straying too far from what you know you’ll wear and love!
and that’s my weekend in cozy sweaters! You guys know how much I live in my sweaters when the weather turns cold and J. Crew makes some of the very best in my humble opinion. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
I hope everyone has weekends that are full of rest. ❤️
Until next time,
Karin
