This past weekend, David and I dropped Kit off at my sister’s and we spent the day doing one of our most favorite things: hiking!

It was a splendid day!

There is nothing like winter hiking for immersing yourself in silence.

The snow muffles the sounds of civilization until you feel as if it’s just you and nature. Completely isolated from the worries of life and the never ending to do list.

Bliss.

We hiked until we found the most beautiful little overlook that gave us a stunning view of the iced over river and the quiet sky.

After our hike we warmed up at our favorite coffee shop and stopped for donuts at the best little bakery to be found in small town Minnesota.

These kind of days are the ones I live for. They are so much a part of what makes us who we are and I look forward to sharing these moments with Kit when it gets warm enough to bring her along.

Until next time,

Minnesota looks so much like Saskatchewan where we are!! I love how snow causes such a silence! Great photos!

So pretty and fun. Sometimes we sno shoe when we are in Utah. Sometimes we don’t…because we are California wimps lol.

This looks like it was the most perfectly beautiful day. I have been yearning for a hiking adventure and this just made me want to go more – Need to convince my husband that you can go hiking in the wintertime. 😉 And that doughnut? Oh. My. Goodness.

Beautiful! I’m loving the stocking cap, I got a little one for my one year old in pink that she refuses to wear. Wish it was my size!

I love being in the woods hiking. It is very still and peaceful! I have not done that in the snow though! These photos are great.

How lovely! My husband and I hiked this weekend, too, up to some cascades. They were flowing quite nicely with all the snow and rain we’ve gotten. Walking out in nature is always the best therapy for me!

So wonderful! I bet that was absolutely gorgeous. I love taking walks when all of the ice begins to thaw. It will be a couple months yet for us, but worth the wait!

Love this! First, the photos are stunning. It definitely makes me want to go on a hike ASAP! And I completely understand what you mean about submersing yourself in nature–it’s peaceful and restores your body and mind.

Winter hiking is the BEST! Also, YAY for small town Minnesota! I thought that Winter scene looked familiar. I lived South of the Twin Cities for about 9 years growing up and my family is still there!
