Happy Friday friends! Who else is doing all the fall things this weekend? Last weekend we went to the Apple Orchard and tomorrow we’re going to the Pumpkin Patch. It’s funny because I’ve noticed a major shift in the “ideal” fall orchard/patch outfit this year. In the past I’d see a lot of knee high boots, flannel, sweaters, and big hats. This year… it’s a lot of 90’s jeans and chunky bright white sneakers ha! It gives me a bit of a chuckle at how much of a shift fashion has taken in recent years thanks to social media and how quick everyone is to jump on trends (not judging because… guilty as charged!).
Anyway, that’s not really the point of today’s blog post. Today I wanted to share the places I like to shop for the kids. I always get questions when I’m out with the kids on where I get there clothes, and I’ve had DM’s on Instagram as well so today I’m going to share my secrets! 😜 Okay, it’s really not that secretive, but while I do shop at the regulars: Target, Baby Gap, H&M, and Zara Kids on occasion I DO like to find more obscure pieces at some smaller shops. The reason? I don’t like to dress my kids like little mini adults. I want them to LOOK like kids, and I want them to have clothes made of fabrics that ALLOW them to be kids. I find that at a lot of the aforementioned places, the clothes tend to be a little to “hip.” If I can find functional, hearty, and kid looking clothes at those places (at a more affordable price) then great! I do. But often I find myself looking elsewhere. SO… here are the places I generally shop from:
- A new to me place is Pact – I’ve shopped there before for myself, but I’d never tried the kids clothes.. but they have quickly been added to the list because the jogger sets I linked above are SO nice. They’re the right thickness that they won’t wear out quickly, and the fabric is so soft. The kids can run around and be crazy in them and none of my sensory kids have complained about tags, strings, tightness or anything else. And same goes for the sets David and I are wearing… so comfortable and the quality is 100%.
- Childhoods Clothing has been a long time favorite of mine. They make very basic clothing that is really comfortable and it’s meant to be played in. We especially love the sweatpants and the sweatshirts.
- Les Gamins also makes basics that are meant for play. I love the striped tees they always do and their little overalls were a favorite in our family when the kids were little.
- Little Wedgies always do the best colors and we love their basics like the shorts and their tees.
- Go Gently Nation makes beautiful heirloom style clothing, and I typically get things like dresses or sweet little tanks here.
- Rylee and Cru is another where I tend find more special clothing like pretty sun dresses or our Christmas dresses, but they also have the best graphic tees as well.
- Maisonette is a shop of curated sustainable clothing for kids. I love their selection for satisfying my kids more colorful desires for clothing ha! They have tons of brands that offer rainbows, unicorns, glitter, etc.
- Boden has the BEST prints and patterns for kids. I got most of Gabe’s long sleeve tees there this year because they have such a good selection of shirts with vehicles on them (he’s a car guy 😉). But they also have really good play dresses here as well.
- Hannah Anderson is the place to get leggings if your kids are petite like mine are. The leggings are cut very slim and they are the only leggings that fit properly on Ella and Rosie. Plus the quality is so good that they are the only leggings (that’s not an over exaggeration) that I’ve been able to pass down from Kit to the twins. Kit ALWAYS gets holes in the knees of her leggings, but not in these.
- And finally, we love Primary clothing for their puffer coats. They also have great basics, but their light weight puffer coats are perfect for trips in the car when we’re running in and out of buildings quickly. Plus they come in a rainbow of colors so everyone is happy. 🙂
These places are a bit more spendy, but I try to shop when there are sales in the off season (much easier to do now that I can predict their sizes) and I often find that I can get things at the same price as I would at H&M, Zara or Baby Gap. I also find that with the higher quality, much more can be passed down from Kit all the way down to Gabe. In fact, he wore a handful of tees this summer and some overalls this fall that were originally Kit’s from Childhoods and Les Gamins.
Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! I hope this was a helpful roundup for anyone interested. I do love kids clothes as much as I love my clothes so it’s fun to chat mini style for a change. 🙂
Until next time,
Karin
