Today was a rare day.
My husband watched the girls while I got to go see a movie all by myself… an introverts ideal of a good time my friends.
And even better?
I saw Wonder Woman (a movie I have been highly anticipating ever since I heard it was in production).
Can I confess something to you guys?
I cried.
And no, it wasn’t at the end when…
well if you’ve seen it you know what I’m talking about.
No, it was the scene when Diana rushes into battle and just kicks butt. It was so fierce, and noble, and fearless.
It left me so inspired.
It also apparently really inspired the tween boy next to me who kept pumping the air with his fist every time she did something awesome.
But I digress.
As I was leaving the movie theater I came to the conclusion that, just as I watched Star Wars with my dad when I was a little girl and aspired to be Princess Leia, I want my girls to grow up wanting to be like Wonder Woman.
And not just because she can get. the. job. done.
It’s because of what Wonder Woman can teach my daughters… especially these five things:
- That girls can be superheroes too.
That it’s not just a man’s job. Women are just as fierce, just as capable, and just as formidable. We are not just the love interest, we are so much more. We are not the damsel in distress, we are the one saving the world one beautifully feminine way at a time. But also that…
2. Men and women can successfully and brilliantly work together.
It doesn’t have to be women vs. men. It can be both of us working together as an equal team… each person bringing their own unique talents and abilities to the table… each sex working in harmony with one another towards a good and worthy goal. And while you’re at it, let’s remember that…
3. Women aren’t just pretty faces.
They can be smart and strong. And we can be vocal about what we know. It’s okay to be the smartest, or strongest, person in the room. It’s okay to own who you are and not try to be anything else because it’s what people expect. And speaking of other people’s opinions…
4. You will get resistance when you are fighting for something important.
There will always be obstacles. There will always be people giving you a million reasons why your cause isn’t worth pursuing or why it isn’t possible to accomplish. They might even be well meaning people who seem to have your best interest at heart. But…
5. It’s important to fight for truth and love.
It might mean sacrificing. It might mean being unpopular. It might lose you friends. But choosing to fight for what’s right is always better… even if it is incredibly hard.
As Wonder Woman herself says:
“And now I know, that only love can truly save the world. So I stay, I fight, and I give, for the world I know can be.”

Yep. I too had a rare night away from my young kids and saw Wonder Woman through the week with my sister and girlfriend. Loved it so much. So great to see a powerful kick arse female lead ? If my boys were old enough I would go again with them!
Seriously! It was so good! I really can’t wait to see it again! I feel like she was so strong, but not isolated… does that make sense? Glad you had some fun time away!
