Before I do anything, I just have to say a big, fat THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to comment (or send silent good vibes) on my last couple of posts.

I’m so thankful for you guys and it makes me ever more excited that you guys are excited. I really do think these changes are exactly what I need to be doing, and… I’m just in a good blogging place right now. 😉

Anywho:

One of the things that I want to start idoing here at Truncation is a “monthly mantra.”

I just think it’s a good way to take a moment and create an intention for each month… almost like a mini New Year’s resolution, but without the pressure of keeping it for an entire year.

As I was thinking about what I should choose for the month of June, my mind immediately went to the concept of “less.”

Summer tends to get filled up with trips and endless activities, and every year I feel like I blink and its August.

And we do have some of those things planned for this summer, but I still have hopes that this summer will be filled with slow, lazy days.

I haven’t always been good at taking things slow, and I definitely still struggle with being still…

but in the past few years I have come to appreciate less,

and I’ve come to appreciate slow.

Lately I’ve gotten into the habit of asking myself:

“Can we do less?”

“Do I have to buy this? Or can I make this?”

“Is this activity necessary?”

I’ve tried to intentionally keep our calendar as free as possible, and I’m doing my best to keep my girls’ days as free of digital distractions as well.

I’m figuring out how we can make things from scratch, and even (you may have noticed) diving into the world of sewing our own clothes and mending.

There is this overwhelming message in our North American society to consume, consume, consume:

We’re told to consume without even a fleeting consideration of how that consumption affects the environment and the people making our goods… or even how that consumption affects our well being.

We’re told to go for “convenient” at all costs, and with every chance that we get.

Buy the cheap and easily available clothing.

Buy the sodium loaded pre-made frozen dinner.

So I’m fighting against the status quo.

Our family is taking things slow.

Slow days, slow food, slow fashion…

which leads me to my monthly mantra for June:

“stop a moment, cease your work, look around you.”

May we take this month to slow down, to cease the endless activities, and to really notice life happening around us.

Until next time,

Karin

Love this mantra! And I like the idea of doing a monthly mantra. I get so overwhelmed with a mantra for a whole year, and I like being able to be flexible and fluid with my year, allowing me to refocus and hone in on specific areas of growth throughout the year. So glad you’re doing this and love the new focus of the blog!
