Winter ’18 Capsule Outfit No. 25 & 10 Random Things

Guess who’s turning one tomorrow?! (Hint: it’s not me)

Ella and Rosie! Can you believe it? I plan to do a little write up next week about what I’ve learned in my first year of being their mom, but I want to include some pictures of them experiencing cake for the first time so stay tuned for that!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you might remember a series I started called Ten Random Things about Me You Don’t Care About, but I’m Going to Tell you Anyway (you can find the other two posts here and here).

I’ve decided to continue that series, but do it here instead of on Instagram so those of you who don’t have Instagram can now be blessed with this knowledge (#kidding). I’m going to change it a bit so it’s just Ten Random Things instead of Ten Random Things about Me because, well, it gets a little exhausting being so narcissistic.

So here goes!

  1. I’m afraid of hair. Yup, I’m putting this on the internet. I have a fear of hair that is not attached to a head. Now before you judge me too much, its a real thing (so hah!)
  2. I really enjoy working out and I try to be all intense and do weight training and running, but I can’t stop coming back to the Mari Winsor Pilates videos that my mom did in the 90’s (just more proof that I really am a 70 year old).
  3. My natural hair color is dishwater blonde and my eyes can best be described as a muddy green… so thanks for that universe.
  4. Kit lately has not wanted to “submit” to me. I always tell her to say “yes mommy” when I’m done telling her to do something and lately instead of saying that she says “yes, mammuf.” As if that somehow negates the act of submitting (ha!).
  5. David and I are re-watching the Office and it gets even better with age.
  6. I’m thinking about doing another half marathon, but this time trying to do it right. The first (and only) half marathon I ran, I found out later that I ran on a stress fracture (which I’d like to say explained my snails pace, but…). I didn’t weight train at all while I was training, which I now realize I should probably do (duh!).
  7. Speaking of running at a snails pace, I have been running for about ten years now and I still run at an 11 minute mile. I am literally the world’s slowest runner. I’ve tried to do interval training to increase my pace, but I’m thinking it’s just not in the cards.
  8. I’ve noticed lately that Kit is becoming a little bit of a hoarder of small items, which doesn’t suprise me because when I was little I used to keep gummy bears (instead of eating them) and hide them in my underwear drawer because I thought they were so cute. If that’s not the making of a horror movie then I don’t know what is!
  9. Speaking of horror movies, I am the world’s biggest wuss when it comes to scary stuff! I still have nightmares sometimes about Scream (the original one that I saw in theatres because I’m that old) and I can’t even watch Stranger Things.
  10. And finally… I am known amongst my friends as being the “drink leaver”. I take a few sips of a beverage and then just never finish it. It drives David absolutely crazy and when I was in high school, it drove one of my boyfriends’ moms crazy too (to the point where she started getting liters of soda at parties instead of cans… whoops!).

So there you have it. I’d love to hear some random things about you! Leave them in the comments below or if you’re feeling bold, post them on instagram with the hashtag #randomthingsaboutmeyouyoudontcareaboutbutimgoingtotellyouanyway and make sure to tag me in it so I can see them. This is probably one of the vainer things we could do in life, but it’s also kind of fun. 😉

And happy weekend!

I’m so excited that your girls are turning 1! Emma didn’t not enjoy her first piece of cake at her birthday, but James would have finished his entire mini cake plus Emma’s if I’d let him. Also there is no such thing as too many baby smash cake photos 🙂 Random things about me – I LOVE a good scary story/movie, and Halloween was my favorite holiday (including my birthday) as a kid. I can’t stand the sound of people chewing while simulataneously acknowledging I am the world’s loudest chewer. And something has brought me to tears at least once a day since I became a mom. The latest and most ridiculous being when a cartoon my kids were watching mentioned that there are less than 100 Florida panthers left in the wild due to them losing their habitats. But 90% of the time it’s due to something I heard on NPR that day.

Kit didn’t love hers either, but both Ella and Rosie dug in with gusto! I love that you can admit your fault, while still finding it in others haha! And I feel you on the tears! I’ve become so wheepy since having kiddos!

I’m a wannabe runner too and I can quicken my mile run but if it is any longer, I slow to a 11 min mile. I see it as success, each step and each mile. I don’t like scary movies. I love to decorate and try to reuse what I have in a new way. I’ve always loved old thing, vintage, sentimental things. I have about 30% hearing left, only one ear hears. Can’t handle noises that come from the mouth except vocal. I can’t stand dust bunnies/grit in the corners and baseboards but it is always visible b/c of our house and all smooth floors and I have to practice less OCD because I’d waste my time vacuuming all.the.time.

Yes! I think running at all is a success right? The mouth thing is funny! Isn’t it weird what grosses individual people out?

I was big on weight training and cardio. Then I had my 2 daughters and I became an insomniac. And lazy. So now I do ballet type workouts(more mat workouts with them, without weights) and have been seeing better results with them than before. So I am actually ok with being ‘lazy’/tired

Isn’t it funny how sometimes pushing too hard can actually have the opposite affect? Pilates and running/walking are the only two workouts that I TRULY enjoy so I’m trying to just let go of the expectation that I should do free weight/machine weight training and just stick to what I like.

I can’t say I’m afraid of hai, but hair any place other than a head makes me want to barf.

    More random.

I quit smoking three years ago and put a good chunk of my no smoking money into a personal trainer.

I have an adult (23 year old) daughter with disabilities. She has a genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome, and for now, still lives at home. I also have a daughter (27) who is a Peace Corp volunteer in Madagascar, and my youngest (22) is a Hamline student.

My husband and I have been to the great Minnesota State Fair every single year since 1977.

Yeah it’s probably more of an aversion than a fear. Good for you for taking control of your health! That’s definitely not an easy thing to do. We LOVE the State Fair, we’ve been every year since we got married so we might be catching up with you!
