Today I’m excited to share with you another look at a winter capsule!
ย
Through the #capsulewardrobeย Instagram community, I met a girl named Dani and she’s great about posting daily capsule wardrobe outfit inspiration!
I love seeing how she works with her capsule, so I was super excited that she agreed to share her winter capsule with you.
As you can see, we have pretty different styles so I hope that for those of you who don’t gel with my style this will give you some inspiration for your very own winter capsule.
So without further ado, here’s what Dani has to say:
ย
Iโve been super excited about writing this piece for Karin because sheโs one of my favorite blogs, and her style is spot on.
I love seeing all of the different types of blogs that have sprouted up with this idea of a capsule wardrobe.
Itโs funny how something that seems so small has made such a big impact, not only on individual lives, but on a community itself!
I started out on this journey in April of 2015 when I found Caroline Rectorโs blog, Unfancy, and it changed my life.
I felt I could relate to her perfectly, from never having anything to wear, to always spending too much money on clothes that I didnโt care for and would only wear once or twice.
I have really loved having a capsule wardrobe because I can focus less on shopping and really make my wardrobe represent the best me.
Before, I would shop almost constantly and had a huge mishmashed wardrobe of clothes that were cheap and that I didnโt really care for.
I was the queen of Forever21 and rue21.
The point of a capsule wardrobe is to find contentment in a smaller number of clothes, and only wear clothes that make you feel happy and like your best self.
Iโm just now into my third full capsule, and Iโve had to tweak what Caroline does, but I am learning that this is all a process, and everyone does things their own way.
With my capsule I have had to get creative.
My work dress code is business casual with a strict code on tattoos and piercings and hair colors. B
usiness casual is a little too stuffy for my personal tastes, especially when it gets so hot out, so I decided to create two capsules and have one for work and one for play.
My work capsules are fall/winter capsule and spring/summer capsule, and each consist of about 45-50 pieces including shoes.
Since they encompass 6 months each, I felt that I could expand on the number of options that I have.
The trickiest part for me is always finding tops for the spring/summer capsule that cover the tattoo I have on the top of my arm (and sweaters in the summer are NOT an option- I run hot and my office is always too warm).
If I am not at work, I usually am at the gym, or at home.
I donโt go out a whole lot, so my play capsule (pictured above) is much smaller- about 30 pieces (not including shoes) and even some pieces in my play capsule only get worn once or twice.
But I find that having a two capsule system has worked out much better for me than trying to encompass it all in one capsule.
Sometimes I will borrow from one to supplement the other, but I usually try to keep them from overlapping (except shoes).
For the most part, this system works well.
I do find some fatigue in my work clothes in the summer, because our warm weather lasts forever (and I hate the heat. Hate it), but I think next year I will make a conscious effort to find a few pieces that really excite me and can keep that fatigue from setting in.
The next step after the new year for me will really be cutting down on my accessories. I have so much fake and cheap jewelry, and more scarves than I know what to do with.
I want to start investing in nice, real jewelry, and only have the accessories that I really wear.
I also will continue to pare down my wardrobe.
I hope that this could help someone out!
Itโs hard getting started, but just remember: itโs all a process, and youโre on such a cool journey!
