I’ve been realizing how much lately I struggle with being too routine focused.

What I mean is that I will have a new idea and instead of trying it out or implementing it slowly into my life I say:

“great idea Karin! This is what I’m always doing going forward for ever and ever!”

#faceplant

With style that looks like “oh I like these shoes… okay now I need to change my entire wardrobe so that it fits in with this new shoe aestethic.”

With beauty it looks like “my beauty routine needs to be more simplified… I’m going to throw away all of these products that don’t fall into the simple category.”

With babies it looks like “we went on a walk today at this time and it went super well, now we need to go on a walk at this time for the rest of our days.”

And the cycle repeats. I’m like a dog who catches the scent of a squirrel… any new idea that seems to work has me completely distracted and focusing on that one thing.

But as I’ve become aware of that part of my personality I’m trying to work on being more relaxed in the way I approach things and just let every day be what it is.

And I’m trying to not let every whim change the direction of my life.

Baby steps right people? And maybe acknowledging the fact that today that works, but tomorrow it may not.

Anyway, this week I had several things that I stumbled upon/was reintroduced to that just really inspired me and I wanted to share them with you:

This post by my friend Amy (especially where she talks about needing to retrain our brains to focus on reading a book… something I’m definitely guilty of).

This piece by Jamie & the Jones (it’s on my winter wishlist).

Listening to Edgar Myers on Spotify (his music embodies fall in my opinion)

Soapbox Soaps new campaign: you use my code: SBXRambo317 and they’ll donate two bars of soap to someone in need (instead of just one) + you’ll get 10% off! (this is to celebrate them reaching 3 million donations… so cool!)

And with that, let’s get to today’s video (an hour and a half later):

Products mentioned:
Soapbox Shampoo c/o (use code: SBXRambo317 for 10% off and a double donation credit).
Playa Shampoo c/o
Amara Organics Face Serum
Pur No Filter Primer
W3ll People eyeliner
NOTO lip Balm/Stain
100% Pure lip caramel
Oilogic Calm

So tell me… do you struggle with trying to fit everything into a routine? I’m really working on going with the flow, but it definitely goes against my nature! Has anything inspired you this week that you’d care to share? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

My morning routine: I keep trying to add one more thing before getting the kids off to school. I’m trying to reduce things this fall, so we have a pleasant morning…but it is so hard! Definitely recommend flylady for learning about routines (but not the conservative viewpoints, personally).
And it is not new to me, but I am still loving Native deodorant. Natural, and I don’t have an odor at the end of the day!

I’m also trying to reduce things that are “necessary” in our routine. I hope it goes well for you! Is flylady a book? Never heard of it! I haven’t tried Native deodorant yet, but I’ve heard really good things! I think I will try it once I’m done with my current supply.

Karin this is SO me. I never realize how routine dependent I am on routine until something is thrown off or I’m unable to keep up with my “ideals”. I’m laughing at how silly it sounds, but in reality, I’m the same way.

I totally get that Olivia! It really is silly, but it makes sense in my head (when I’m justifying it for myself!)

Ok, I am the laziest blog reader ever and never comment, but I HAD to! How do you even know Edgar Meyer’s music? In my previous non-fashion blogger life, I was a professional bass player and he’s been my idol since I was about 12. I’ve even played for him in a masterclass before and of course seen him play a lot. I seriously thought only bass nerds knew him. Thanks for the laugh today!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Haha! I’m glad you commented because I don’t often come across people that know him either! I actually found him through an old blog that I used to read years ago! Haha!

I so get this. I was literally nodding my head in agreement while reading this post. I sometimes wonder if maybe I’m a little too obsessed with curating my life and it’s gone from something good to something that distracts me from the messiness of life as it is. There’s a part of me that still believes in finding the right balance, but maybe I’ll need to become a monk to find out…? And I’m so glad you got value from my post last week! Thanks for sharing and inspiring, my friend!

I get that feeling too Amy! I think when you live a lot of your life online it’s hard to realize that it’s okay to have parts of your life that are just what they are. I struggle with that as well. I’m happy to share Amy! I love what you’re doing!
