I can’t help, but share the bad ones… keeps me humble. 😉

You guys. It’s February. As in, it’s one month until March and then SPRING (which is, incidentally, my birthday month #allofthecelebrations).

How in the world did that happen?

It seems like it was just yesterday that I started my winter capsule.

I think part of the reason that this capsule is flying right by is that I’m REALLY loving what I included.

This is the first capsule that I have very few regrets with.

You know what that means?

I’m growing! I’m learning!

That feels pretty dang good.

I, somewhat arrogantly, went into this whole journey thinking that I had my personal style totally figured out.

But I really didn’t at all!

And I’m still learning what it is. Miss arrogant has been taken down a peg.

I really do think that capsule wardrobes help you define your personal style.

It just naturally happens when you strip away all of the extra fluff. Without the distraction of an overflowing closet you can embrace what you truly love… and feel free to let go of that which you don’t.

Part of my original plan was to start my spring capsule on March 1. BUT, after living with the transition from summer to fall I realized it’s not very practical to stick to a hard and fast date for switching. I ended up sweating profusely for about three weeks. Not fun.

So I’m going to be switching things up a bit. I have decided to switch when it makes sense.

And you know what? I feel pretty good about that.

What about you? Have you started thinking about your spring capsules yet?

Until next time,

  1. A capsule wardrobe totally helps you define your personal style. Which is why I’m a little nervous for my spring and summer capsule. I love fall dressing and layering. When I think about my style all that comes to my mind are outfits that you could wear in fall. I’m definitely curious where my spring/summer capsule will take me stylewise… 🙂

    1. I know the feeling Kate! It’s definitely taking me a lot more thought and shopping around because I’m not sure exactly what I want to do.

  2. I lovvvve this winter look of yours! The hat is so cute. I am officially OVER winter (it’s -40ºC here in Ottawa today) and I’m desperate for spring. Can’t wait to start taking outfit shots outdoors!

  3. Feeling the same about transitioning to spring, don’t feel ready yet and I’m not sure the weather will be ready in 4 weeks. Will just have to play it by ear, not even thought about my spring wardrobe yet!!

  4. I just cannot imagine having a capsule wardrobe. I have SO MANY clothes. I’m not buying any more currently and I am working to get rid of anything I don’t love, but I love so much of it! lol

  5. It just got super cold again here, so I’m dreaming of Spring! I love that sweater and hat, especially. Can’t wait to see what you come up with in your spring capsule.

    1. Thanks Shann! I’m definitely starting to dream of days where I don’t have a coat. Now that I have Kit, I’m realizing what a hassle coats are! Haha!

  6. I love the idea of the wardrobe capsules. Love your photos. And you should always include the outtakes. Sometimes those are the best ones. 😉

  7. You look fab in your winter capsule! I totally agree, on the outtakes and switching when it makes sense. Sometimes I wish I lived somewhere where it’s either always cold or always warm. But then I think nah…I like the different seasons too much.

  8. Great post! I feel the same way about transitioning seasons: last year we had snow until May in Nova Scotia so it didn’t make sense to start my spring capsule until mid-May or else I’d be freezing!

  9. I agree on not setting a specific date to switch your wardrobe! I did the same thing in the fall, and packed everything up that didn’t fit in it. Needless to say, I am only going to switch a few items that are definitely too warm for transitioning into spring. With any luck, in a few weeks I will have my Spring Capsule Wardrobe completed! I cannot wait to see which pieces you are going to incorporate into your wardrobe!

  10. Hey Karin, glad to have found you over here! Just read your About page and I have to say it’s a shame we’re in different countries because I’d love to have a cuppa tea with you some time! I love long philosophical discussions too 🙂
Beautiful pics, it does look cold!
I’m learning the same as you about my style, I didn’t realise how much I didn’t really know it at all. There’ve been a few purchases this season I’ve regretted (each time they were the faster purchases!!) but above all, I’m finding that going slow helps me identify the gaps better, which will hopefully lead to more suitable purchases in the future.
