I’m only a month into my winter wardrobe, but I have already realized something:
I am WAY more satisfied with this capsule than I was with my summer and fall capsules.
Why?
Well… I included clothing that has a bit more… pizzaz.
Now don’t get me wrong, I will ALWAYS be an active advocate of comfort wear.
And I’ll never be much of a heel girl, or a fingernail polish girl, or … you get the point.
I’ll also never wear something that I don’t find comfortable.
I don’t have time for uncomfortable clothing.
BUT when I began to stay at home with Kit, I assumed that I would be wearing lounge wear 90% of the time and so organized my capsules around that idea.
But here’s the thing, I don’t feel like myself when I’m wearing lounge wear all the time. It makes me feel a bit frumpy (if that’s your thing, no judgement here… you go girl/guy).
Plus, Kit and I venture out of the house a lot more than I thought we would and I like to look nice when I leave the house… even if it is to run to the grocery store.
So this capsule I made sure to include a lot of clothing that looks pulled together, but is still incredibly comfortable.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m learning to accept my own personal style.
I think a capsule wardrobe will only be successful if you are willing to be 100% honest about who you actually are.
Pretending to have a personal style that doesn’t belong to you only causes you discontent and an urge to buy more.
On the other hand, embracing who you are allows your clothing to work for you instead of against you.

You are so right, Karin. You’re not going to be in love with your capsule unless it is 100% your personal style. For me, that means a lot of classic pieces in fall/winter like denim, cords, button ups, and sweaters – the typical Northeast preppy look. But in the spring/summer, it is full-on bright colors and patterns like I’m on a 24/7 vacation in Palm Beach. For that reason, I will probably never be able to do a year-round capsule; the styles would clash to much. However I did see this adorable grandma at Target yesterday wearing a hot pink Lilly long-sleeve top with a navy puffer vest, white jeans, and riding boots, her grey hair curled perfectly. If she can pull off bright colors in winter, maybe so can I!
I know how you feel! My summer wardrobe has always varied quite a bit from my cold wardrobe. I actually want to try and work on that so that they meld a little better. I LOVE that the grandma you saw was rocking it. Good for her! I only hope I will be that stylish some day. 🙂

You make such a great point. I’m at a point where I think I’ve finally accepted my own style…most of the time. I also like to be comfortable during the day. I also don’t care to wear much make-up anymore, and I think that’s ok too. I love your dress!

I love your style! So clean and polished. It is very similar to mine, but I’m trying to be a bit more put together this year. I’ve settled into being a jeans and tee-shirt girl, but I’d like to wear more cute stuff like this! Thanks for sharing!
