How to Wear Mom Jeans without Looking like a Teenager

Alright you guys. We’re talking mom jeans today. First and foremost, you should wear whatever jeans you want to wear in whatever style you want to wear! BUT mom jeans are kind of what everyone is talking about right now thanks to some, erm, comments from some Gen Zers.

And I’m here to say: don’t worry! You’re probably already wearing a version of mom jeans and you don’t even know it. As in, mom jeans don’t have to be massively baggy jeans with tons of room in the hips.

BUT, guess what? The Everlane 90’s jean is… a mom jean. It has the high rise, the roomier hip, and the tapered leg.

Now I do have a full review of them here, so I won’t reiterate that information now but I will say that this washed black version is my most reached for pair of jeans.

Which tells you:

mom jeans really can be super wearable.

I think they are super flattering, AND they are extremely comfortable. Plus I find them easy to style.

So with that said, today I decided to share three ways I like to style them for warmer weather… and the best part? These are outfits that look a bit more… mature? A.K.A. you won’t look like a teenager in these outfits.

Outfit 1:

This sweater vest is older from H&M so I linked similar.

The flip flops are also an older style from Everlane so I linked similar.

I love the way these jeans look with a longer sweater vest. This is a very current, chic look but it also is simultaneously timeless. I love the combo of the gray and black paired with a bit of color in the bag. The color palette is sophisticated so you can wear this to happy hour after work (eventually!), but it’s also perfect for a day with your kids (especially paired with a flip flop).

The sweater is a secondhand Theory sweater so I linked to a few similar options.

This is another gray and black color palette, which is actually one of my favorite, easy ways of making outfits look a bit more chic. Color can be super fun, but there’s something very timeless about a monochrome outfit. I love that there are some trendy elements to this outfit with the mom jean, gold chain, oversized sweater, and chunkier sandal but the overall effect isn’t super trendy. These birkenstocks are also a great option if you can’t swing the price of the Birkenstock Arizona’s. They are obviously quite a bit different in material, but you get the same look for a lot less.

Shop the Look

I sized up in the sweater to a medium to get a more relaxed fit.

And finally, one of my favorite ways to wear these jeans is with some more structured pieces like a blazer and loafer. This isn’t something I’d wear to the park with my kids, but it’s a great date night outfit, church outfit, or even a casual day when you know you aren’t going to be chasing after your kids a ton. It’s also a great work outfit! I love the way the cream sweater really breaks up the rest of the color palette.

So there you have it! That’s how I’ll be styling these “mom jeans” for spring. Hopefully your takeaway from this post is that you shouldn’t care that much what other people tell you you “should be” wearing, BUT that it is fun to freshen up your wardrobe a bit while still keeping things timeless. A lot of times I find that I already have the pieces in my wardrobe that I need to make a more “current” outfit, it just comes down to how I style those pieces… my guess is you’re probably the same. πŸ˜‰

Okay well that’s all I’ve got for you guys today! Are you a fan of mom jeans? Yes? No? If not, what’s your favorite style to wear? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

Karin

Nice inspirations you have here, I like the last set with loafers, although this isn’t the best season to recreate this but I like it πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ
