What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

As you’ve probably figured out by now, we were in St. Louis a few weeks ago for my late Grandpa’s memorial service.

It was a lovely time spent with family, meeting my new second cousin (he fell asleep in my arms and melted my heart right into a puddle), and revisiting some of our old stomping grounds… plus there was food. My family never skimps on the food.

But oh! the heat! We had originally planned to make it into a fun weekend for the girls, but we ended up staying as close to an AC as we could manage.

We did venture out to the Arch for a bit, but we only managed for a short while before we eagerly headed back to our cars. We did find a little wading pool outside of the Arch museum that Kit was able to cool off in for a bit… it was fun to watch her swim around with all of the other fully dressed kids. I think most parents were willing to sacrifice dry clothes for the chance to cool off!

But in the end, it was just a short few days with a lot of driving on the front and tail end. About one day into the trip I realized I was going to have to let go of my desire to keep everyone on a schedule, but the girls managed okay. After working so hard to get them to sleep for the past year and a half, I think we’re at a point where a bit of flexibility is okay. 🙂

I didn’t manage to take very many pictures while we were there, but I did manage to get a photo each day of my outfit so I thought I would at least share that with you…

Thursday/Travel Day One:

What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

Tee: Tradlands (XS), c/o | Shorts: Vintage. Similar | Clogs: Troentorp (Size Down), c/o | Horn Necklace | Rose Necklace

I’ve been experimenting with untucking my shirts and I really enjoy doing it with this Tradlands tee. It’s the perfect length for it to still look pulled together. Overall this was a super comfy outfit to travel in.

Friday/Travel Day Two:

What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

Tank: Eli & Barry (it’s coming back soon!). Similar | Culottes: Old Only Child. c/o Similar

Friday was spent traveling, settling in, and grabbing a big Italian dinner with family and friends. So a picture wasn’t squeezed in until late at night. I had basically melted into nothing at this point and was happy to have lightweight options to wear in the heat.

Saturday/Memorial Service Day:

What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

Dress: Vintage. Find similar options here | Shoes: Saltwater

I found this vintage Tommy Hilfiger dress at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago… I did a poll on my Instagram stories asking if I should get it, and it was pretty split ha! But I loved it. It makes me feel feminine, and I love the way the skirt swishes when I walk. I’m glad I listened to my gut.

Sunday/Arch Outing/Travel Day Three:

What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

Tank Top: Thrifted. Similar | Shorts: PO-EM (TTS) | Shoes: Super Old. Almost Identical

This was our last and final day in St. Louis. We visited the Arch, but mostly tried to stick to the shady patches. Even so we were sweating… but it was still worth it to hear Kit’s gasp when she saw the Arch for the first time.

Monday/Travel Day Four:

What I Actually Wore: St. Louis Edition

tank: everlane (XS)

I think this is going to be a pretty constant combo for me for the rest of the summer: lightweight tank top (and this one is an absolute favorite… the double v gives it a much more pulled together look than a regular tank top), linen shorts. So easy, but perfect for running after three young babes in the heat. I barely even managed shoes this day as we were traveling all day.

So there you have it… it’s hard to dress for heat, but I’m thankful for fibers and cuts that kept me relatively cool. How are you all surviving the heat?

Until next time,

Karin

Your memorial service dress looks so lovely!!

I have been absolutely relying on linen or light cottons and flowy-er shapes this summer to stay cool. It hasn’t been as hot out east as back in the Midwest (where I’m originally from), but we’ve been getting this swampy humidity I haven’t seen since my Iowa days, and…oooof. The upside: fireflies! It’s ususlly not humid enough here for them, and they are POPPIN’ this summer. 🙂 But, yeah, I have my one linen dress and one pair of flowy shorts on repeat with a handful of tanks and tees that I just swap out and wash as I sweat through them! Trying to mindfully add a couple more hot weather options to the wardrobe (that work with my changing midlife body), as these steamy days seem to increase each year!

Thanks Meg! Linen really has changed summer for me (kind of like how wool socks changed winter ha!). I find myself so much better equipped for the heat, which makes me enjoy being outside a lot more!

Well, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so we don’t really have heat, lol. I would love a little heat though so I can pull out some summer wear. Loving all your casual outfits girlfriend. xoxo
