Hello there! This last week was rough. Kit’s sleep schedule is WAY out of wack after being in a different time zone for a week. On top of that I had more late nights than early nights. That makes one tired mama… and now I’m either battling allergies or a head cold. Not to complain, but in light of that, I thought I would take a brief break from outfit posts to talk to you about my skincare/makeup routine. I should start by saying that this is nothing groundbreaking. For real. I’m finding though that doing a capsule wardrobe has helped me to minimize the clutter in other areas as well (I talked a bit more about that in THIS blog post)… especially my daily “routine.” When I worked outside of the home I was all about putting on a full face of makeup and doing my hair every single day. Granted, I worked in an environment where it was important to look nice because I needed to meet with people. Now that I am a stay at home mom I have no time for that bizz. Plus, I’m learning that I actually LIKE the way I look with less makeup and more au naturale hair. There have been a few times in the last couple of months that I put on more makeup like I used to and it just seemed off. You guys. This capsule wardrobe thing is literally changing my life.
Before we get into it though let me make a quick comment to those of you lovelies who subscribe to my posts. I’m going to switch from sending you an e-mail every time I post to a weekly digest of my content. Just a heads up in case you were wondering why you didn’t get an email this morning. And if you’re not subscribed, please do! I’ve got some pretty exciting content I have been burning the midnight oil (see above) to create just for my subscribers. I will be sending it out next week and you don’t want to miss it!
Okay. So. Let me break it down for you after this caveat: I try to use organic and natural products as much as possible, but my budget and my skin don’t always agree with that ideal. I have oily, acne prone, excema prone skin so I use what works.
My AM skincare routine:
I use Dove soap because it’s great for PH balancing oily skin and then the Magic Pads as a glycolic acid treatment. I only use the Tea Tree Oil treatment when I’m having breakouts. I SWEAR by Skin MD. I have been using it for years and it is the perfect balance of lightweight and calming. It’s the only product I’ve found that addresses both my redness and my oiliness. Plus, it’s supa cheap.
Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion
My PM routine is even more simple:
I use the Philosophy face wash as a makeup remover/face wash. Sometimes it doesn’t quite do the job on my eye makeup so I’ll just use whatever cheap makeup remover towelettes I have on hand. I’ve been wanting to try the Makeup Eraser though… have any of you tried it?? And again, I SWEAR by the Vitamin E Oil. I don’t know what it is about this stuff, but it legit clears up my breakups and tightens my pores. Plus, I use it as an eye treatment as well. Simple right?
And the grand finale… my simplified makeup routine. If you know me, you’ll know that this is a fraction of what I used to use. Can I get a high five?
I think this routine is pretty self explanatory. Even though I have breakouts I still prefer to use something lighter like this tinted moisturizer. I find that when I use the higher coverage foundation it just doesn’t look natural on me because of my oily skin. I prefer to look a little under done than to look over done. You feel me?
Lip Balm (Apple a Day)
Well that’s it for today folks. Do you have any easy products that you swear by? I’m always on the lookout for products that will make things easier. Let me know in the comments below! And don’t forget to subscribe!
Until next time,
