Help Wanted Please and the James Dean of Dachshunds

While David and I love going out and exploring our city, we also equally love staying around the area and going on walks with our “kids”. I put that word in parenthesis because one of them is very much our child… the other one just thinks he is.  If there are any other dachshund owners out there then you know that they are class A clingers.  Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile.  It was a little hard to take these pictures because, as you can see above, Oscar wasn’t feeling up to it.  He mostly just wanted to keep walking and/or rolling around in the grass. He lives by his own rules… we should just call him James Deanachshund.

Anyway, I don’t have any musings for you guys today.  What I did want to do is create some space for people to leave resources or tips if they have any.  There are two things in particular that I’m wanting to hear from you.  Have you read any good books, listened to any good podcasts, etc. that talk about capsule wardrobes, organization, and/or minimal living? I’ll be finishing my yearly read through of the Harry Potter series soon (don’t judge, I’m a super fan and I’m cool with it. Snape feels me.) and I’m looking for some new reading material.  I would really like to dig into some more material about this whole capsule wardrobe thing.  If you have any good suggestions, let me know in the comments below!

The other thing I’m wondering about is capsule wardrobes for kids. I found this resource from Hello Krysta Shore that seems really helpful, but I would love to hear if any of you have put them together. Or do you have resources on how to put them together? So far, Kit’s clothing has mostly been what we were given at showers/hand me downs so I haven’t had to worry about it, but we’re nearing the end of those items and I hate the thought of buying her a bunch of stuff and then not ever using it.  I would appreciate any help! Again, if you have good suggestions let me know in the comments below!

    Your daughter is adorable, and so is your other “kid” 🙂 Seriously, if we were to ever get a dog, I would want a dachshund. I don’t have any capsule resources for you, but my closet would like me to find some.

      Haha! I do feel that I need to warn you that if you ever do get a dachshund you should ABSOLUTELY invest in obedience school. We did not and I think it would have made such a difference in how much we enjoy having him. Dachshunds are just very, very stubborn so you need to catch them right out of the gate. 🙂

    I never thought to organize a capsule wardrobe when my kids were very small – we just had whatever was on sale/handed down/given to us/etc. As they’ve gotten older (and opinionated!) I’ve absolutely gone capsule for kids. Each of mine a very different wardrobe and I’ve done a couple of posts on the topic if you’re looking – http://encapsulated.me/category/kid-clothes/ In a nutshell, for my “girly girl” I tend to do a few graphic tees, a flannel, a sweater or jacket, a few dresses (bonus if one is a denim that can also be worn as a long denim jacket!), some ponte pants or leggings and a pair of jeans. For my “it MUST be soft or you’ll never get me into it” girl, leggings and tunics. We all like pattern mixing and Converse are awesome – comfy for early walkers and one of those shoes that looks good with jeans and dresses. Plus I generally buy charcoal or navy so I can pass them down easily. That said there IS is a hot pink pair floating around my house waiting for the youngest to grow into them. 🙂 Hope that helps!

    First off, we love Harry Potter here. Like, love. I think my girls live, eat, and breathe it. My oldest is going to be 11 and all she wants for her birthday is her Hogwarts letter. Thank God for creative the Esty people who make them 😉 secondly my book suggestion. I love Marie Kondo’s Life Changing Magic of Tidying up. I think that is what it is called. It’s amazing for minimalistic living if you haven’t read it.

    I’ve heard of a capsule wardrobe but that is about it. Being a mom of 4 kids, I can share what I have learned in the clothing department….don’t overbuy. They can grow so quickly and skip sizes altogether. I would recommend simply buying a handful of cute pieces that you can mix and match without a problem and then as the need arises for certain outfits add them as you go. I gave away so many outfits the first couple years that my children never even wore because I over bought, so keeping it simple is definitely better. I look forward to reading more about the capsule wardrobe.
