30 Days of Summer Style Day 8: A Focus on Gold Jewelry

Lately I’ve been shifting the way I view jewelry. Last year I was all about statement earrings… and while I still love to wear them from time to time, I’ve really been falling in love with simple, gold jewelry.

A large part of that has to do with the shift in weather. I always seem to reach for more simple jewelry when it gets warm because warm weather clothing seems to call for it. And my warm weather clothing palette is perfectly complimented by pretty gold jewelry.

Whites, and taupes, and cognacs… even blacks… are extra special when paired with sparkly gold.

Over the last few months I’ve built up my collection a little bit… not a ton, I’ve kept my additions pretty minimal, but I’ve filled a few holes: a couple of simple pendant necklaces I could layer, a pair of small gold hoops, and a couple of simple, but interesting gold rings. I’m really pleased with these additions and with how much I’ve already worn and loved them.

All of the pieces in these photos fit into those requirements perfectly. On a basic blush dress like this one, the pops of gold jewelry make the outfit.

Each piece adds its own special touch through the various textures and prints. The wide band, ridges and the crossover detail on the rings give a lot of visual interest as does the width of the hoop earrings, and I love the pairing of the two different sized pendants.

The key to making simple gold jewelry work is to find pieces that offer something a little different… those small details will instantly make the pieces feel more special.

What’s your favorite kind of jewelry to wear? Are you of the simple route, or do you prefer statement pieces?
