20 Week Pegnancy Update: How I’m Feeling + More

I cannot believe I’m giving you guys my 20 week pregnancy update! (Hopefully) Half way there! If you missed my first pregnancy update, check it out here because I’ll be referencing some things I wrote in that post that I don’t want to repeat here.

FIRST of all, I have to say that I’m feeling SO much better. SO, So much better. I’ve been feeling a lot better, morning sickness wise since about 14 weeks.

But then I ended up having a horrible head cold that turned into a sinus infection, which ended up in me having a bad reaction to my Z pack (I’m allergic to a lot of antibiotics, and I can now add that one to the list ha!) at about 15 weeks and I was honestly SO miserable. I had the flu a few years ago, and this was by far worse.

Then at about 16 weeks I started getting really, really bad heartburn/acid reflux. I was throwing up constantly from it and I couldn’t eat anything without it being exasperated.

But NOW? I’m feeling like a whole new person! The heartburn has mostly gone away (I have a post coming on how I’ve managed it to a point where it’s not really bothering me anymore), I’m not having sinus issues, and my energy has come back in a huge way.

In fact, other than my sciatic nerve acting up if I over exert myself, I feel pretty normal! Which is SHOCKING haha!

I had such a horrible pregnancy with Kit, and then the twins were… well a twin pregnancy, that to feel normal even a little bit while pregnant feels so strange.

I can feel him (we revealed the gender in this post!) moving, so I know things are okay (isn’t it funny how feeling good FEELS like something is wrong? Ha!), and I’ve been going in for the bimonthly ultrasounds I mentioned in my last post so that’s been reassuring as well.

It’s funny because on the last ultrasound he looked really squished into one corner so I asked the tech why and she said “it’s his choice!” And it’s funny because I can feel that he likes to be in the far right corner a majority of the time. Hopefully it means he’ll be a snuggler 🙂

We also decided to hold off on progesterone shots as everything has been looking really good with my cervix. I was happy with that decision because, while I would do whatever needs to be done to keep him in as long as possible, insurance doesn’t cover much of that cost and I would have to go in for weekly shots. We may do them further down the road, but only if there are signs that I’ll need them.

Other than that, everything is going really well! Fingers crossed I avoid gestational diabetes and preeclampsia this time, but time will tell. Mostly I’m just thankful to have made it so far and that I’m feeling more myself. I’m also thankful to be done with my last first trimester ever ha!

OH! One last thing: my food aversions are completely gone yay! I went through a phase where I was craving taco bell tacos (without cheese of course) like crazy, but I realized that I just can’t eat them with my acid reflux so I’ve been restraining myself ha!

I’ve also been craving cucumbers with hummus, eggs, and ice cream. Ice cream/sugary foods are usually a big trigger for acid reflux, but I think because I do almond milk ice cream, the almond milk kind of negates the sugar? I have no idea if that’s true… it’s not based on any scientific reasoning so don’t take my word for it. 🙂

Another thing I’ve noticed is that I don’t crave ice like I did with my first two pregnancies. I think there is something to be said for ice cravings/iron deficiencies because I was anemic with my first two pregnancies and so far my iron has looked great.

Overall though, I just think boys are a lot easier to be pregnant with ha!

Okay I think that’s it for my 20 week pregnancy update. If I missed anything you’re curious about just ask in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer!

Anyone else at the halfway mark? How are you feeling?

I am so glad to hear you’re feeling more normal!

I am at 25 weeks and feeling great. Morning sickness is all gone (I think). Mine was light to begin with. I’m having a girl but only threw up 1-2 times a week and felt normal otherwise.
It’s my first and I can’t wait till I can feel more movement. So far it almost doesn’t seem real.

Thanks Gwyn! I’m happy to hear you’re feeling better as well! It always seems unreal until the movements become more pronounced!
