Spring 2018 Outfit 31: Full Circle

Spring 2018 Outfit 25: Full Circle Spring 2018 Outfit 25: Full Circle

So I’ve come full circle on these shoes you guys.

I had mentioned earlier that I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep them because they hurt my feet so bad.

A few of you encouraged me to hang on to them and try to break them in… and I listened! Yay!

They did eventually break in, and now they are really comfortable.

I think that’s a good lesson in a slow wardrobe actually.

Sometimes having a slow wardrobe means slowing down our decision making process about the clothing we already own.

I think sometimes in the capsule wardrobe world there is this big push to purge, and while I absolutely think that there is a place for purging, sometimes the excitement of “starting new” causes us to get rid of things too quickly.

I’m a big fan of the keep things hidden for a year trick:

Put things you’re unsure about in storage for a year, and if you haven’t thought about it then get rid of it.

It definitely slows down the process…

but I kind of think that’s a good thing.

Yes! I notice this with clothing, too. I write off fit and then it gets laundered a few times and is softer or shaped a little differently or drapes differently and works again.

That’s especially true for natural fibers as well. I try to follow the “don’t get rid of it for a year” principle just to make sure I’m not making hasty decisions

I like this concept! I currently have the clothes that are still too small for me in bins in our guest room. I’m tempted to just purge them, but since I am only a few months postpartum I don’t want to be too hasty. I’m still getting rid of quite a bit, but I’m saving some of the items I still really like for a year ( or until the next time they are in season) since last time my weight/size didn’t stabilize until 15 mo or so post baby. It’s definitely more sustainable (and cheaper) to wear what you have vs buying a whole new wardrobe.

Yes that is so smart Jackie! I got rid of things after Kit assuming that I wouldn’t be able to fit in them ever again, and now I regret it since I’ve lost more weight post twins than I did post Kit.
