It’s been awhile since I shared a travel capsule with you guys!
Mostly because we haven’t traveled much in the last year or so (due to moving and having twins), but also because I haven’t really been doing the capsule wardrobe thing over that time.
In fact, I went into my archives and this was the last travel capsule I posted.
Oh goodness you guys… that feels like a lifetime ago! What was my life even like back then?
Due to all of the aforementioned life happenings, we’re not really going to be taking a vacation this year so we decided to take a bit of a longer trip to visit my parents in Iowa.
So honestly, this travel capsule isn’t anything out of the ordinary other than the fact that it’s an honest look into what a real person packs when they are practicing a capsule wardrobe.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I believe that the biggest key to packing a successful travel capsule is to plan ahead.
I.e. check the weather before you go.
That’s such a basic tip, but when you do that one simple step you can eliminate a lot of things that you don’t need.
I typically pack mostly what the weather tells me I should and then I throw in a few pieces that will work no matter the weather. In this particular travel capsule, those pieces were my linen dress and my denim jacket.
I’m not going to say much more than that only because I do feel like I’ve really hashed out my travel tips in previous travel capsule posts (I’ll link some of them below), and I don’t have anything mind blowingly different to tell you.
I will say that having an “expensive year” has really forced David and I to slow things down and provide much simpler entertainment for our girls.
This trip was an example of that, but it also plays out in the types of activities we do during the week.
And you know what? It’s been so incredibly refreshing. We take our time everyday instead of rushing to a new event every morning. We play outside with no plan in mind, we go on walks, we have spontaneous dance parties.
I’ve always been someone who has enjoyed having a goal to check off and that has always applied to the activities I planned with Kit. This new way of doing things has been challenging for me at times, but here’s the crazy thing:
Kit’s thriving. She loves the slow paced life. She loves spending an hour picking dandelions in the front yard and playing with the same toys over and over again.
I guess my point is that a more simple approach has its benefit, both in your wardrobe and just in life in general. We don’t need to be extravagant to live a full, meaningful life.
Okay I’ve worn my pulpit out for the day.
What about you? Do you have summer travel plans or are you slowing it down like us? Let me know in the comments below! How do you approach time spent with your kids? Do you plan a bunch of stuff, or do you just let them hang out however they want to?
Until next time,
