30 Days of Summer Style Day 12: An Outfit Change

Happy Friday my friends!

I have to tell you, I’m having one of those “had to go in the closet and swear to myself to get it out of my system” kind of days with the girls.

All three have little summer colds, and its manifesting in them melting down at EVERY LITTLE THING. And fighting… so much hair pulling, and hitting at our house today.

I tried to go out and do a little gardening this morning while the girls played in the yard, but I got about a 1/2 hour in before I gave up.

It’s the meltdowns that get to me though… the irrational, can’t handle my emotions meltdowns that drive me to the closet. I am 100% sympathetic to the fact that their emotions are hard to handle and they need me to stay calm… but sometimes mommy has hard emotions too okay?!

Hence the closet. It really does make me feel better. And I can take it out on my clothes, and not on my girls.

There’s your mom tip for the day: swear at your clothes, not at your kids.

Ella seems to be having the roughest day so I may just bring her along with me when I run errands this afternoon (David works from home on Fridays). Hopefully a little one on one time will do us both some good.

So sitting down to right this post, and focusing on something that gives me joy is a nice reprieve (it may be a short reprieve, but I’m not complaining).

I’m sharing two outfits today because, as I mentioned above, we did outdoor stuff this morning and I got filthy so I changed into a cute little sundress for the rest of the day/errand running.

The first outfit is pretty much a completely practical outfit. I get really hot these days so I tried to put on as few clothes as possible to pull weeds and chase after the girls in the hot sun.

The Saltwater sandals are basically indestructible so while they may seem a bit impractical for gardening, they’re actually perfect. I hate when dirt trickles down into my tennis shoes (anyone else? I fear that may be a weird quirk of mine) so I definitely prefer sandals if I know I’ll be getting dirty.

The hat is also an entirely practical choice because it keeps the sun off my face, and the strap keeps it on… I do like how it makes the outfit look a bit more styled though.

My outfit change is a new fave of mine. This dress was a gift from the brand Carleen, and… its very voluminous, but I kind of really love it. I’ve seen photos of my mom when she was pregnant with my youngest sister in ’89/’90 and this dress with me being pregnant gives me majorly similar vibes. I don’t hate it! Not only is it a really cute dress, but it’s so much more comfortable than outfits like I wore this morning. I’ve found that anything with a waistband exasperates my acid reflux so a tent dress like this one is absolutely ideal.

Also, a little side note about these shoes. I didn’t include them in my summer capsule because I thought I would be too hot in closed toe flats, but I’ve actually been really into them with little dresses. So I’m officially adding them into the capsule.

I think I’ll end things here because I’m not sure how much longer I’ll have to get things done. 🙂

Which of today’s outfits do you prefer? Or maybe, a better question is which outfit aligns the most with your style?
