A couple of weekends ago we went to our favorite place in the city, Como Zoo and Conservatory. I have been there more times than I can count and Kit’s really starting to rack up the visits as well. David and I both agree that it’s a place we could visit over and over and not get sick of (which is funny because it’s not that big and nothing really ever changes), we just love it! This time was especially fun because Kit is now at a point where she sees the animals and gets a huge kick out of them. She was giggling at all of the animals, and we got stopped by so many people who wanted to have a chat with her as well. She’s quite the little charmer. It was such a great day!
You know, part of why I was feeling so emotional over the last few weeks is that David and I used to get out and do so many fun things! We love hiking, and biking, and running, and camping, and just finding adventure wherever we can! If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that the one time we tried to go camping with Kit we were met with some… challenges. And we don’t live super close to the really good hiking areas being that we’re in the city, so it’s been tough to get out and do a day of hiking like we used to because of naps, and feedings, and… you feel me. Recently though, David and I realized that if we want to find adventure we just have to prioritize it, BUT our adventures just have to look a little bit different now than it did before. I mean, I would love to cart Kit off on a European adventure, but now that we are on one income, that just isn’t going to happen anytime soon. So we’ve decided to FIND adventure right here in our own backyard… like our day at Como Zoo. I think sometimes I have this “go big or go home” mentality, but I’m learning that adventure doesn’t have to be grand, it just has to fill you with excitement and wonder (like showing Kit the baby gorillas). By only waiting until we can do the BIG things in life, I’m not teaching Kit to find beauty in the every day moments. I’m beginning to realize that adventure is a state of mind, not necessarily something you do. I need to remember that this world is amazing and it’s up to me to make a conscious decision to be in awe of it.
Until next time,
OMG your baby girl is picture perfect!! The one of you two sitting on the blanket and she’s looking up just melts my heart! <3

Thank you Hayley! We kind of like her. 🙂
Lovely family! These times are just so precious!! This place looks familiar, I may have seen it at HGTV. Do you mind sharing where Como zoo is?
and the baby is SO precious- you too! 😀
Thanks Andi!
We live north of the city and my son is absolutely crazy about trains. So we will get on MetroNorth and go just a few stops, get off where there is a close by playground, hang out for a bit, and back on the train to home. My husband and I have monthly passes already so it doesn’t cost us a dime since our son is under three. The trip fills the morning and then he’s exhausted by the time we get home and it’s off for a nap.
That is a GREAT idea Meredith! We are totally going to do that!
Our zoo’s (2 in different directions one hour away each) are not that big. We recently went to the Omaha zoo, 4+ hours from where we are and I frankly wasn’t that impressed. I actually felt our closer zoos were just as good. It is so nice that you have a zoo close by to take your little one too, and yes once you have a little one, outings definitely look different than before!
I completely agree with you! The Minnesota Zoo costs so much money and it’s not nearly as fun as the Como Zoo!
I have that same “go big or go home” attitude, too–and I’m working really hard to change it. Those sweet, small moments in my hometown can be just as wonderful as exploring a new city halfway around the world. 🙂 Love the pictures!
Exactly! It’s so hard to find contentment where you are at… especially when it seems like every other person on social media is travelling the world! 😉
So sweet! So lovely post! Beautiful pics!
Thank you!
