My winter 10×10 challenge clothing picks

Hi friends! If you saw yesterday’s post then you know that the winter 10×10 challenge is starting tomorrow… fun!

In preparation for the challenge starting I thought I would share the clothing pieces I picked out and my initial thoughts on the challenge:

// as you can see, my picks are not that adventurous. This is only my third time doing the challenge and the last two times I was in over my head with babies and I basically just coasted through the challenge. So I basically feel as if this is my first challenge because it’s the first time I’m approaching it with intention. Because of that, I chose pieces that are familiar and easy. Maybe I’ll get a bit more adventurous the next go around… we’ll see!

// I’m including my Everlane boyfriend fit jeans because I’ve felt slightly adverse to them lately and I’m not really sure why. I want to see if I can reinvigorate my love of them. I have a feeling it has to do with their length and the type of shoes I have included in my capsule, but I’m hoping a week of playing with them will help me clarify that.

// I only included tennis shoes. This was more a practical decision than anything else. I didn’t want to include shoes that would work against my lifestyle so I played it really safe. I do adore my boots, but I’m aware of my schedule over the next couple of weeks and so I’m sticking to comfort for my shoes.

That’s all I can think of really at the moment! I’m excited to share my final thoughts and each of my outfits over the next ten blog posts.

So who’s in? Are you playing it safe or are you pushing yourself a bit more?

I’m in! This is only my second challenge, so I’m also playing it a little safe. I’ve decided to do it for ten days straight this time (last time I did ten weekdays), so I’m a little nervous about laundry, but I’m really excited!

Yay! I hope it goes well! I’ve always done 10 days straight in a row, but I’m also not the pickiest when it comes to getting stains on my clothes (unless they’re immediately obvious!).

This is my second time doing the challenge, so I’ve pushed myself to add more color this time. I’m really excited to get started!

I think my next challenge I’d like to play around with color as well!

I’m having a go at my second 10×10. I feel your pain about trouser length and the right shoes: since I started wearing wide leg and cropped pants, this has been a headache! In the challenge, I’ve Included one pair of cropped, wide legged jeans, to see if I can figure it out. I’ll either end up naked and frustrated – or hopefully, steal some styling tips from other 10×10-ers…

I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard, but somehow it is! I may need to have them taken up an inch though, I think that might be a big problem solver.

Hi! So glad to have found your blog! I did a google search for “how to wear everlane modern boyfriend” and came across your post from last October. I totally get why you might be a little adverse to them, so I am glad you included them in your 10X10 challenge and am looking forward to seeing how you style them. As a cold-weather alternative to wool leggings, I got the black pair in my regular size, so they slouch a bit, which I like. (I just can’t do skinny jeans right now with the current state of my mom bod.) If I had sized down to wear them at my waist, I think they would have been too short for wearing with socks. I just can’t do bare ankles until it warms up a bit more around here. I followed your idea to wear them with shirts tucked in and a long cardigan, and I like the look very much. A silk tank makes it look less frumpy since I am doing socks and my Camper ankle boots for practical purposes. I also like them with my various striped shirts tucked in, but sometimes it just feels too fussy to tuck in a shirt. I would love to just throw on a sweater with these jeans and be done with it, but I am short-waisted, so I can’t quite figure out how to wear them with a sweater without looking frumpy. I tried everlane’s cropped cashmere, and it was no good. So far the only thing that looks ok is an old Everlane sweatshirt I have that is a bit fitted (fits more like a crew sweater rather than a loose sweatshirt). Have you had any luck pairing these jeans with a sweater?

My Everlane boyfriend jeans are one of my current favorite pants to wear, I have them in mid blue. I cuff mine and wear them either loose or with a belt. I wear ankle high boots with them or flats. Don’t have sneakers yet to wear with them, but hopefully I will in the Spring. I love wearing them with sweaters, button up shirts, and tees alike. Wearing a tighter top is also a nice contrast from the looseness of the pants, but I tend to gravitate towards looser tops.

Did you get them in a true boyfriend size or did you size down?

True size. But I am also really short, so the length is probably on the longer side for me. Even cuffed they sit just at my ankle bones.

Yeah they are a bit long! I’m average for height and they are long on me.

You’re basically describing all of the things that I feel about them… I like them a lot, but they also have things about them that bug me. I’m wondering if I have the wrong size, I can’t really put my finger on them. I think I’m going to table them for my next capsule and see if I miss them. Sometimes not having them in front of me gives me a bit more clarity.
